Why are the 21st Ward Interested Parties for Alderman Scared to Address the 87th Street Situation

It's apparent to me that the interested parties for 21st Ward Alderman are going to ignore the new 21st ward constituents coming from Chatham. Although Chatham residents have loudly stated their displeasure with the cadre of vendors, phony fundraising, buckets boys, etc.it appears that if those who are announced intentions to run will turn a deaf ear to their concerns. Again, there is an ordinance that prohibits solicitation of any kind that runs from 87th Ryan to Western on the west and another one that runs from the Ryan to Cottage Grove on the East.. So I guess the 21st ward doesn't start until Halsted and runs West for election purposes because these same individuals were silent on the Concepts Charter- Clay Evans debacle.

Do any of you have some courage to refute me?

Refute you ?? You keep articulating the same small misguided thinking, we get it, you hate bucket boys and "looking ghetto" !! And again I say,

Refute you ?? You keep articulating the same small misguided thinking, we get it, you hate bucket boys and "looking ghetto" !! And again I say,

    Candidates for aldermen are full of bright ideas, saying;
When I become Alderman I'm going to fill these darn potholes!
When I become Alderman I am going to clean this empty lot!
When I become Alderman I am going to reopen the electrician class at Simeon!
Really? How? These candidates speak as though their mere presence in City Hall with their bright ideas will make city council sit, bark and roll over! None of these candidates have offered a plan to make their bright ideas REALITY, but it's not their fault.

These candidates are only doing what they have seen work for Alderman, after Alderman, after Alderman for decades. Offer bright ideas, get in front of cameras and profess your outrage, create a headline and YOU, CC of C will vote for them.
The only way to make things happen in City Hall is to organize the votes in your community into a voting bloc! This is the only thing City Hall fears, respects and reacts to, other than dollars. The truly powerful aldermen know this. The truly powerful aldermen know that if they organize and direct the votes in their wards, department heads will listen, mayors will listen, state representatives will listen, and not only do they listen, but they move when that voting bloc says move.

Alderman Burke picks up a phone and potholes get filled, he picks up a phone and debris gets removed from vacant lots. How did Alderman Burke get that type of power and influence in a Rahm Emmanuel administration? Alderman Burke organized and directed 87% of the votes in his ward AWAY from Rahm Emanuel. NOW, after exercising the POWER of that voting bloc, everybody listens!!

Instead of doing the hard work of organizing a power base by organizing a voting bloc that will demand fear, respect and action, these candidates talk about their bright ideas and expect to enter city hall and ask better, or ask more forcefully, or ask the right person.

*The state of our community is too critical for us to continue doing what we have always done*

We must stop voting for bright ideas with no plan.
We must stop voting for the person on television
We must stop voting for our soror or fraternity brother
We must stop voting to get election time gifts (contracts, streets fixed, seasonal jobs)

We have an opportunity to take control of our city council, take control of our Board of Education and take control of our community, but only if we elect candidates citywide, that understand how to organize a community network, inform and mobilize the community into a power base, and how to use that Power base to make things happen.

  • Clap Clap Clap, bravo for the speech. Ok, you are going to go into city hall and tell Rahm "he's going to give you the TIF Money", he's going to create jobs in your community, blah blah blah. Got to get elected first sport.

Why not in the 21st Ward

Why can't we have the Obama School in the 21st Ward. There are plenty of open spaces available for the school. Doris Lewis Brooks, candidate for Alderman of the 21st Ward says," If CPS can close almost 50 schools, but work diligently to secure a location for the $60 million proposed selective enrollment high school named after President Obama, then the school should be located in the 21st ward. To bring a school of this caliber to the ward would instill a sense of pride and honor to the citizens of Chicago in general and to the African-American community in particular"'

  • Knowing the city, theyll build it from scratch. They'll say the other buildings are old &outdated. See a lot of potential spots in my ward(21) that could be put to use. Hirsch is a pretty cool school to be renamed but again, I doubt they'll do that. @Casey, I thought the newsletter was informative. Brookins shouldn't open his mouth considering he hasn't put one out since last election. Guess we were supposed to be impressed because it was in color!

  • Jeff Janulis CAPS Rep

Knowing the city, they will build it from scratch for white neighborshoods/students (North Side Prep, Walter Payton, Jones).
In black communities they rehab old worn out buildings (Lindblom, Mendel/Brooks).
To build new in black communities, it is for vocatonal schools (Simeon). Tells you what their plans are for us - to always work for them.

You won Casey and WillEnglewood called WillECase. All of the CONSTRUCTIVE dialog has left EveryBlock because of your DESTRUCTIVE and NEGATIVE comments. Again, you do not post comments rather wait for someone else to post so you can spew your negativity. I think that you are rather sad because you appear to be old, bitter and have nothing better to do, but you were funny and a source of morning enjoyment. Now you are not funny anymore but rather a waste of time. It was probably people like you that shut the EveryBlock site down back in 2012.. You have managed to run everyone who might have had some good information away because of your idiotic and inane comments. I tried to hang but noticed that the intelligent subscribers to this site also left. Hope that you
both will have a ball talking to each other because you are all that you have left! See ya and would not want to be ya !!

  • I said the same thing. No one is going to make me leave a forum I enjoy sharing views and ideas with. Negativity has not place here. If your are bitter and angry at your elected official, tell them not me.

  • Scoopie Concerned citizen of the 21st. Ward

I just don't believe how ignorant WillECase really is! And got the nerve to try to throw people off by thanking his alter ego. For all newcomers, WillEnglewood-Casey Thomas same person. Mute at will!!
