Air For Schools, Bypass City Council

Tuesday, it was reported that Mayor Emanuel has ordered air conditioning for all of the Chicago Public Schools. Tuesday, it was reported that Mayor Emanuel has ordered air conditioning for all of the Chicago Public Schools. The upshot is that this news reportedly came as a complete surprise to the aldermen in the city council. The funding for this action is suppose to be coming out of the CPS capital budget. Candidate for Alderman of the 21st Ward, Doris Lewis Brooks stated," It doesn't surprise me at all. There is a growing lack of respect for the aldermen, the Teachers Union and other entities. When you have a rubber stamp council, you don't have to inform them, just announce it and bypass the council. He knows that Brookins and a lot of the rest would not have a problem voting for it".
She went on to say that," How better to get the schools ready for the 'Turn-Arounds' and charters by having the air conditioners already installed especially when back in 2011, it was not yet a priority".

  • This woefully uninformed candidate is walking proof that we need to bring civics back into the classrooms if she has the most basic knowledge that the CPS is a separate taxing body who's actions are not under the governance of the city council.
It seems her years of selling hair weave and bergamount and Murray hair oil has failed her once again.

Ward Clean-Up

Candidate for Alderman of the 21st Ward Doris Lewis Brooks reminds us to don't forget about the alleys during clean up. "On a lot of our blocks there are abandon buildings that have accumulated a lot of trash such as paper, dead leaves, plastic bags and other garbage in the alley behind them.. We need to take the approach that if any part of the alley is garbage strewn, it makes the whole alley look bad. Also, garbage build up...

"On a lot of our blocks there are abandon buildings that have accumulated a lot of trash such as paper, dead leaves, plastic bags and other garbage in the alley behind them.. We need to take the approach that if any part of the alley is garbage strewn, it makes the whole alley look bad. Also, garbage build up in any part of the alleys can provide a haven for rodents. There are people that have seen rodents so big, they though they were baby cats. When cleaning alleys, don't forget about the shrubs and trees that have grown along the edge of the alley. Cutting them down will also help prevent rodent infestation as well as helping to eliminate hiding places for sexual predators.
