It’s a big advantage to be able to pick players from other towns or leagues. So the Jackie Robinson West coaches cheated. They broke the rules.
That was unfair to the teams that followed the rules. It was also unfair to kids in the Jackie Robinson West area who did not get a chance to play on the tournament team because the coaches passed them over to get “better” players from other areas.
These boys, some of them almost as tall as Pres. Obama, had to realize that something was not right. 11 and 12-year-olds are not stupid. They know what a neighborhood league is, and they know when they are being driven out of their neighborhood to play with boys they don't know. The other boys know when strangers appear on their team, boys who don't live in their neighborhoods, don't go to the same schools they do, etc. they're aware, they talk, they figure out what's going on. Follow The Groundhog’s Example: Stay Indoors

Every year, in February, we wait to see if Punxsutawney Phil, the world’s most famous groundhog, will predict six more weeks of winter. Huge crowds have waited for Phil’s prediction each year since 1886. For Phil, seeing his shadow predicts six more weeks of winter-like weather. More often than not, he sees his shadow and goes back inside.

Homeless Center on Southside of Chicago

Hello everyone. My name is DeLancy. I would like to know everyone thoughts on having a Homeless Center on Southside of Chicago? I would like the community input on this issue.

Because it is better to invest the limited resources available in our youth, instead of people that have frittered their lives away. I agree with Ms. Yolanda.

And what a prick to pick on a typo mr. grammar-check....

  • No, I was (and am) being quite sincere in erring on the side of caution to make sure that I was understanding Yolando O's post. Hence my heartfelt apology in advance, if I got it wrong.

Sometimes you're sure you're right about something and it turns out not to be the case. I was fairly certain it was just a typo (and we all make 'em!!) but just in case I was wrong (which has happened on occasion), I wanted to avoid offending her.
I hope that she realizes that, if not in my last post, then by what I have added here.

More dirty politics in the 6th Ward

According to Glen Fulton, president of the nonprofit Greater Englewood Community Development Corporation, Brian Sleet, chief of staff to Ald. Roderick Sawyer (6th), called him today and told him he needs to "be careful."

Fulton said Sleet was referring to him supporting 6th Ward aldermanic candidate Richard Wooten over Sawyer and indicated that if Sawyer is re-elected Fulton's organization should not expect any support from Sawyer.

AN OPEN LETTER TO MAYOR RAHM EMANUEL FROM THE ENGLEWOOD RAILWAY COALITION

An open letter to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel from the Englewood Railway Coalition regarding Norfolk Southern Corp.’s (NSC) attempted hostile takeover of Black-owned homes in Englewood. NSC, a $34.5 billion Virginia-based corporation, is trying to expand a massive freight yard in our neighborhood. The project, which amounts to a land grab of some 84 acres, would destroy the homes, history and traditions of this long-established African-American community.
