Residential Parking

What is the point of Residential Parking if the schools do not respect it? Yes, I understand that people have to pick up their kids BUT the school worker that was directing the cars informed me that they are NOT to park they are supposed to follow his direction. Obviously they do not and yes people park early and wait. It is not an in and out thing, either way they are not supposed to do that. Some "parents" even get attitudes when asked to move. Why continue to pay for a residential parking pass if no one follows it?

In the afternoon they block off the street the school sits on but not in the morning (go figure). The aldeman will not even adress the issue. I pray that a emergency vehicle does not need to get down either of these streets!!!!!!' There has to be a better way.

I want even touch on the teachers parking on our block they are rude and inconsiderate. They have a PARKING LOT.

Unfortunately, and with the snow and ice, CPS does not provide enough parking for teachers and staff. This also means there is no place for parents to park if they have school business. Our schools are very overcrowd and taking more neighborhood children than ever before - which causes more traffic problems. The teachers and staff of the building are there for your neighborhood children. Many parents prefer to drive their children to school rather than have them walk in this cold. No one should treat neighbors and members of the community in a rude manner, but please be patience about the parking at school entrance and exit time. If someone parks their car where residential stickers are required, a ticket should be issued by CPD.

  • It seems that some of the parents who post these comments should actually be required to sit in class with their child or childrens.

closing of gas station

Does anyone know why the BP gas station on 79th and Pulaski closed

  • 30+ yrs Long-time resident, trying to help keep it livable

a source, of no real authority, tells me the closed BP will be used to re-locate the Fire
Station from 2 blocks north on Pulaski.
( I also heard that Walgreen's decided to pull out due to low volume/thefts, loss of merchandise, etc. )

  • Thanks 30+years for the excellent post.

Thank you 18th Ward for your support

I would like to thank the residents of our community, who voted for me in the February 24th, Alderman Election. It was a long hard road. For this reason, I purposed in my heart to stay the course. I am both grateful and honored for having opportunity to represent you. Although the February elections are over, and i did not make it into the April runoff, there is still much work to be done. I am committed as ever to having a listening ear and being a voice of hope, purpose and action in our community. I look forward to working together with everyone to help move our ward forward.

Fioretti did you think you'd win?

Fioretti, Don't you know when to drop out. Rahm 46% of vote so far. Fioretti 7%. 46 plus 7 equals 53% could have been to Rahm. Now more months to waste on campaign adds. Rahm your English negative campaign on Chuy let Non English speaking people see Chuys face all over the place and didn't have a clue if it was good or bad and Chuy learn how to say the word afford. Both F's should be heard.

  • @Merc- Fioretti's voters despise Emanuel. They would vote for Garcia, Wilson, or Walls before they'd cast a ballot for Emanuel.

If you think the majority of Chuy's voters don't speak English you are as clueless as your buddy Emanuel.

This site is worthless. There aren't any community alerts, community classes, nor any information PERIOD!

What's happening with can openers?

Electric and handheld can openers are not opening cans without flip tops. Neither my husband or I are having much success. Anybody else having this problem, explain your situation. If you're having no problems with this, let me know what you are using to open cans and perhaps include the brand name. What gives???? I'm baffled!

  • I'm disabled and that's just a little thing in life that annoys me. My other problems can't be fixed here.

  • I purchased the Kuhn Rikon via QVC and just used it. I was hardly turning and I didn't even hear a puncture, I didn't think it was working because there was nothing to it. I decided to check it and it worked. I barely grabbed the edge with the little lifter and the lid came right off. Thank you everybody for your ideas and I'm so glad I asked. I'm no longer frustrated when opening cans.

18TH WARD; Lane and Curtis DO NOT deserve your Vote!

Lona and her #2 Derrick should not get your vote for 18th Ward Alderman. Our neighbors in Chicago Lawn explain a good reason why! Please review the link below.

http://www.myfoxchicago.com/story/28029248/neighbors-angry-over-illegal-dump-site-in-chicago-lawn

  • **@tee80 We need to rally together and elect a new Alderman. I highly recommend you research Michael A. Davis and punch #53 on your voting day. He is a proud product of our 18th Ward. Also follow my posts/events there is a Final Debate if you care to attend.

  • Ms. KAK Concerned Citizen

Early voting has started. Remember Lane seems to be in Rahm pocket. She wanted a charter school rather than help the schools already in the ward. Please go vote...don't let the weather stop you. Car pool. Bring a senior or a friend. Your vote counts in this election.
