Englewoof Support for Southside Dog Parks

Dear Fellow Englewoof Puparents,

I'm reaching out to you in hopes we can connect and give support to one another in creating and maintaining safe and fun environments for our furkids to play, exercise and socialize.

There are currently three such places in Woodlawn aka 'Wooflawn' :
Jackson Bark (Road Hazards Agility Course), Wagsworth and Woofington.

one in South Shore's Rainbow Beach led by Marion Brown marion.brown@gmail.com

and Bronzeville's Buckthorn Park led by Ephraim Lee xhle@hotmail.com

On a related note; if anyone has any old toys their pup has lost interest in, consider giving them a second life by donating them to one of the dog parks... also any grocery bags for the bag dispensers would also be greatly appreciated.

Good question April, it's hard to explain without a map. When fellow puparents ask "Where is Jackson Bark?" I either send them this direct flickr link of a static map => https://flic.kr/p/ps1Arwor or direct them to the interactive maps on foursquare, yelp or google maps... depending on which app they are most familiar with.

As for all these claims that there are not enough recreational opportunities for our youth. I'd say take a closer look. There are more than enough basketball and tennis courts, baseball diamonds and soccer/football fields all over the southside. Problem is... not enough youth are putting them to good use and as a result most of these spaces rarely, if ever, get put to use for their intended purposes.

An Englewood Rising: What Code for America Means for Chicago

This week marks the annual Code for America Summit. The Summit is THE event that convenes and celebrates the nation’s civic technology ecosystem. I chose the word “convenes” deliberately, because civic technology itself is about convening city stakeholders. The summit will showcase where citizens have partnered with their governments to take an active role in their communities, largely through technology.
