Woodlawn is either bipolar or just completely in denial

Minus my input, looking at the newsfeed over the past year, a pattern emerges... "X number of peeps wounded or killed", "Good Morning everybody I love you", "X number or burglaries this week/month/year", "have a great day kisses" etc etc etc

To which i am left to ask the profound question... "WTF?!"

  • Jolyon renter/resident

Todd, part of my point is that there is room for both topics, and more. EveryBlock has more space than Woodlawn! One person's junk is another's treasure. I see no harm in cheeriness even if I'm not so good at it myself and gravitate to other sorts of conversations. And to be sure, the growing field of happiness research suggests that cheeriness has social value that extends to the existential. More aphorisms: the poison is in the dose. Fortunately one can dose at the level one's own choosing.

  • Todd Agosto Analyst/Investigator at Veritatem Cognoscere

Jolyon perhaps i'm the oddball here but i come to EB to be informed and to inform others. The daily happy insipid drivel that's equivalent to falalalalalala is completely useless and pointless... to the degree that it's even embarrassing. If you read the newsfeeds of other neighborhoods in the "Popular in Chicago" tab you can see a big difference. Members of these other communities, by far, contribute more 'food for thought' on a variety of subjects and issues.

Okay! GREAT! They DESERVE it even though no amount of money is going to give them back all that they lost.

My question is, the City of Chicago is in a serious DEFICIT! Where is the money coming from? Brian Brock said the money will undoubtedly come from PROPERTY TAXES. So then what HAD that money been originally allocated for that now isn't going to happen because those funds are being used to satisfy a debt that BURGE AND HIS CRONIES should be paying?

Also, IS THIS HUSH MONEY! The tortures took place under Burges watch, but, there were others directly involved and doing the actual torturing. Has that LIST of individuals been revealed or is it a taboo subject because we might have current elected officials who were more HANDS ON with the torturing than they would like the public to know? Was Burge the only individual to pay the price for this HEINOUS crime and mischaracter of justice? Will he take the list of other participants with him to his grave or now that he's been released from prison, is this JUST THE START of a new chapter in the Chicago Political Corruption ongoing saga...

"THE CORRUPT AND THE DEFENSELESS"

STAY TUNED!

I feel like Arsenio Hall, this is something to think about, the type of stuff that makes you go, "Hmmm!"

Anyone up for some serious spring cleaning?

If so, it would be well worth the time and effort in building yourself a litter porter. All you need is a mini grocery cart, some slick flat sturdy light weight materials (i've found plastic cardboard works best), some cheap zip ties and a few construction bags.

With the election finally over, this is a good time to grab some campaign signs before the 'streets and sans dept'. With a razor blade or pair of scissors, they are easy to trim to fit. Just be mindful when attaching that you position the heads of the zip ties outside, so that there is no chance that they'll rip a hole in the side of your bag when pulling out for disposal.

With everything in hand; the project should take less than 10 minutes to complete and cost nearly nothing if you obtain materials second hand (cart and inner wall materials) and/or dollar store (zip ties and bags).

Add a pick and you'll have your block, vacant lots and all, cleared within minutes... versus hours. For the how-to on making your own pick check out my post from last spring "DIY Project: Litter Picks" http://chicago.everyblock.com/improvement/apr04-diy-project-litter-picks-6070778/

Any questions? Ask away... I'll do my best to steer you in the right direction.

A message to Mayor Rahm Emanuel and 20th Ward Alderman, Willie Cochran:

On Tuesday, April 7, 2015...

3,267 (44.5%) of the 20th Ward residents said, "YOU GOTTA GO, COCHRAN!"

While you both are kicking back and celebrating your "victories" you would be smart not to dismiss what those voters were communicating to you through their votes.

Rahm, you made history being the first Chicago Mayor to be FORCED INTO A RUNOFF ELECTION.

Willie, you are only in your 3rd Term in office and have already been FORCED INTO RUNOFF ELECTIONS TWICE!

Both of you, Rahm Emanuel and Willie Cochran, will be UNDER A MAGNIFYING GLASS for the next four (4) years. Everything you do and don't do will be made TRANSPARENT to the residents of the City of Chicago and the 20th Ward.

***SEE YOU BOTH IN 2019***

Willie B. Cochran 4,079 55.5%
Kevin Bailey 3,267 44.5%

  • Willie knows it's his last rodeo because he will be gentrified out of the 20th ward come 2019. So he will do only things that will leave his name as a legacy.

  • Jeff Janulis CAPS Rep

    Sore losers.....

  • SW

I agree with Jeff, sore losers. Interesting that Michele touts "fire Rahm" rather than being for Chuy, which says that one is not so much for Chuy and what he stands for but more interest in getting Rahm out. Hmmmm....

The Black Agenda emerges from the issues of burning concern to the Black community; it is reflected in the 60 questions and 7 categories of the CBCO Municipal Candidates Questionnaire. It will live as dynamic, holistic solutions. It will be implemented systematically, collectively, and tactically. Implementation will require self-help and fair government. The Black Agenda highlights the expectations, demands, and responsibilities of those seeking to represent us in government, as well as our own steps toward self-sustainability.

We demand transparency, accountability, and inclusion by government, and are prepared to monitor and remove those who deny us. In Chicago's historic mayoral race, 'It's Not the Man, It's the Plan' and whether or not it supports our Agenda.

Chuy responded to our Agenda. Rahm did not. Side deals do not constitute a 'Plan.' Voting our self-interest means only voting a roadmap that ends in our economic power as a people. Right now Blacks everywhere are in extreme crisis and needing a new way forward. Yesterday is gone and nobody owns tomorrow. It's up for grabs. This is our manifesto moment. Taking it, we'll make history remember.

20th Ward Alderman Willie Cochran USING TAX DOLLARS for his campaign!

It appears that the Alderman of the 20th Ward is using TAX DOLLARS to CAMPAIGN by using city employees during business hours to drive his campaign van around and park it on city property. Willie B. Cochran, I do believe this is against the law.
