Keeping a Close Eye on CPD's Glenn Evans

I'm not going to bore anyone with the details but I have (as well as many others in the 3rd District) witnessed first hand the abuses of power Commander Evans has delivered over his brief reign in Woodlawn. I'm not going to bore anyone with the details but I have (as well as many others in the 3rd District) witnessed first hand the abuses of power Commander Evans has delivered over his brief reign in Woodlawn. Now with a new commander at the helm, I'm relieved but only in part. With all the lawsuits and complaints against him, i'm afraid the CPD is going back to their old playbook, tossing him from district to district like a hot potato. If anyone knows his current tour-of-duty please let me know. I want to insure that his past follows him and catches up with him sooner then later.. As of yet, to the best of my research, he has been named a defendant in six different lawsuits over the course of his career.

Hello Valerie! I am very sorry to hear what happened to you and I thank God that you survived your ordeal. I understand that you are frightened after that experience. There are power in numbers and unless we come out as a large army, the gangs will continue to defeat us. There are ways that many of us can do to combat violence: positive loitering,( gangbangers and drug dealers stray away from blocks that have roaming eyes) attend Beat meetings to voice our complaints (I am disappointed when I see only 15 attendees at every meeting, most of whom are elderly.),call the police constantly to complain of illegal activity. Continue to reach out to the police concerning your incident so that they may take it seriously. Find out the name of the detective assigned to your case.

Reclaim Chicago! (reclaimchicago.org)

Hello everybody,

Are you tired of putting up with aldermen who don't actually do anything for their wards? Are you tired of elected officials who are "machine Democrats" and care more about pleasing Rahm Emanuel and the interests of the wealthy than the people who they were elected to represent?

The People's Lobby, a grassroots organizing network in Chicago, is doing just that. We are finding progressive candidates to run in several wards and campaigning for them to make sure that they get elected.

In order to give citizens throughout the city an input on what issues are most important to them and what they would like to see changed in Chicago, we have created a website where you can say why you want to reclaim Chicago. All you need to do is go to reclaimchicago.org and submit some personal information and a sentence describing what you want to see changed. This only takes a few minutes, and it would be great to get some representation from Woodlawn!

Also, if you're interested in learning more about the People's Lobby and our potential candidates, or getting involved, let me know!

The Resurfacing of Cottage Grove

...just another prime example of how
"We're Getting Things Done"... BACKWARDS!

Nearly 4 lanes wide, 10 blocks in length, worth of road in good condition replaced... when there are hundreds of potholes throughout the ward that still need to be filled?

photo source: taken and compiled this morning

  • CeCe Edwards Grand Crossing Park Advisory Council

do u recall the construction 63rd? UofChicago had most streets in this area a mess. this was before the resurfacing. My car lost a tire. so I am in complete agreement with the project. It was needed.

  • Todd Agosto Analyst/Investigator at Veritatem Cognoscere

We must be talking about two totally different stretches of 63rd. This was a huge waste of resources which are direly needed elsewhere.

Look Out for the Knock-Out Game

In the fall of last year, quite a few reports were covering a new sadistic hit-and-run trend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjP39MS_GYk A sick twisted 'game' of sucker punch, where the object is to run up on an unsuspecting stranger and knock them out with one calculated hit to the head. In neighborhoods like ours we see each spring a surge in crime. Be on your guard, don't be a target of this new 'game', it's likely to resurface. Recently there were reports that show it may already be making a comeback. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/video-shows-sucker-punch-attacks-mass-street-article-1.1617823 http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/teens-attack-brooklyn-woman-knockout-game-article-1.1711154

"Absolutely No Outside Food !"

Apparently in neighborhoods like ours, cafes and restaurants have to contend with such blatant tresspasses. ie see attached pick and read recent related post chicago.everyblock.com/announcements/jul23-customer-service-issue-robust-coffee-6274096/

I suppose this shouldn't surprise anyone who is familiar with all the other typical sophomoric nonsense we find parading around us. ie sagging pants, litter, vandalism, obnoxiously loud music playing at any hour, day or night etc. The fact that such common sense has to be announced as a policy just shows you how cluelessly...

I suppose this shouldn't surprise anyone who is familiar with all the other typical sophomoric nonsense we find parading around us. ie sagging pants, litter, vandalism, obnoxiously loud music playing at any hour, day or night etc. The fact that such common sense has to be announced as a policy just shows you how cluelessly self-absorbed our youth and adult-children are but to find such basic requirements of etiquette/common-courtesy to be offensive is just beyond me.

There is a business proverbial "wisdom" that states "the customer is always right" but here in the hood i'd venture to say that "the customer is often wrong". I have a lot of respect for 'mom and pops', It takes a stellar work ethic and a tremendous amount of courage to open your own business, especially a restaurant (one of the riskiest ventures) and even more so to do so in a rough neighborhood.

These are qualities we should be pushing our kids to emulate, but Instead it seems as if we are advocating the polar opposite. The proof is as clear as the writing on the wall (see attached pic).

"How To Stop The Shooting and Killing in Chicago: The Harsh Truth:"

If you care to really know and want to make a real difference watch this (but only if you can handle cursing and the 'Harsh Truth') and follow the simple instructions given => http://youtu.be/I4iutTQC_XU

As far as the solutions offered in the video, 'meh' is all that is due. Nothing new or all that common sensical either. The speaker takes on a veneer of moral authority that is neither earned nor evidenced. Gee I've never seen that before, except everywhere conservatives gather.

Excellent video. BUT, preaching personal responsibility is not enough. Such values are inculcated. It takes a collaborative effort: school, parents, society. A society that glorifies illegitimacy and instant gratification, a government that rewards irresponsibility, inaction, laziness and a household without a father, people who showers the rappers with fame and fortune and a school system that is afraid to teach civic duty, morality, principles to live by are the tip of the ice burg. Assuming that there is a movement to change the obvious, it still leaves the question of the current state of affairs. What do we do with the thugs that hold the city hostage? How do we send our children to school with some confidence that they will come home? How do we stop the bullet from crushing every boundary of safety: the home, the car, the store, the school...concrete cannot stop the bullet. The police seem to know who the gang members are and where they live. But I don't. The solution has to be two fold: attack the root of the problem which is a long term project while removing the dead and diseased and dying leaves and branches. The first line of attack is quarantine: ferret out the thugs, isolate them and remove them from society; not into the cushy arms of the correctional system we have but to a system that mandates harsh but productive incarceration. Throw out the TVs and gyms and libraries in prison and replace it with factories to manufacture small goods and farms to sustain their lives. Stop rewarding baby factories!! Communities need to hire their own to improve their neighborhoods. Encourage apprenticeships. The youth are bored, directionless and unemployed. BUT, the first order of CHANGE must be to remove the STREET OCCUPIERS AND RELEASE THE HOSTAGES. No amount of good will and principles of civic society can take root when the soil is toxic and overrun with weeds. ISOLATE, REMOVE, RELEASE AND RENEW!!!
