Outside Cats

The owner of the house 6341 S Kilpatrick feeds stray cats and the cats are multiplying. They are pooping in front of neighbors houses and scratching up carpet ect.... I spoke to the owner because I wanted to tell him his cats were outside and it was below zero. The man said he's been feeding them for years. I asked if he takes them for shots or to the vets for anything and he said no he can't trap them. Nobody knows what can be done. We need to get them to a shelter. Any suggestions?

Similarly, if you do not register your outdoor cats as feral colony, and one of "your" strays gets caught as a nuisance cat by the City, you may be refused the return of the cat. And that is all what is going to happen to you. Nothing else will happen. There is no fine, no ticket.

However, in reality, it has happened in the past that a TNR caretaker was informed by the city they caught the colony cats only to find that half of the cats the city said it had were missing (read: PTSed). So, I don't know how much it matters. If your stray cat is picked up by the city with no chip - you ain't getting it back. Just be prepared for that. Period.

But please, do not read this document as banning feeding stray cats. It's not about that at all.

  • This is the law she's referring to:

The Cook County Managed Care of Feral Cat Ordinance, Chapter 10 Animals, Article IV Managed Care of Feral Cats, Section 10-95 through 10-99 was passed and adopted October 16, 2007 and went into effect 30 days after that date.

Order of Everyblock

I haven't been able to figure out what order our original posts are in. When I open Everyblock, I see the same articles all past due or all old and no more activity. My thought is the order should be by date order (latest date on top) within their area. I'm on my IPhone not on a laptop or computer. But does anybody know the order???

  • If anybody is reading this who is In charge of Everyblock, can you please help me out with my question? How are the articles stored, by date within ward or zip, or by subject?

When I open the iPhone ap I see old posts, such as the original intro to the re-opening of Everyblock. I'd love it if the old data would be at the bottom and the newest posts at the top. Any help with this question?

Mary sorry your Van was stolen. My minivan was stolen 1 month ago when my brother was using it. He had just pulled out of garage & parked it in front of house on 57th & washtenaw. It was there 10 minutes & was stolen. We called everyday to check if it was found always being told NO ' city didn't find it. then 2 WKS after it Was stolen on a Sunday (it' was taken on Friday) I got call from detective it was found and towed to impound on Sacramento Blvd.. it had been sitting in the Impound for 3days. they found it around 300 S. Western. the belief is that neighborhood thugs were Joy Riding & using for a Crack den! Repairs are just broken windows, steering column, and body work to repair dents & side swipes to the doors. the detective Also told Me that the vans are the easiest thing to steal & it happens all the time. I'll Pray that You get your van bacK. Just keep calling the city pound@ Sacramento Blvd.

  • We got the van back! But they left it pretty bad! The whole front was crashed into a pole!!! Upsetting but thankful that we got it back! After a few $$ repairs, think we can look forward our camping trips. Chicago cops were very professional, they called me and waited...

After a few $$ repairs, think we can look forward our camping trips. Chicago cops were very professional, they called me and waited patiently until I met them where van was (63rd and honore). Thanks Chgo Police and folks here on EveryBlock. Community news, updates, and attending your local CAPS Beat meeting are all important tools to help your neighbor!
Since the van had only liability, think I'll start a fundraiser here.. Lol j/k!!

    Appreciate everyone's concern...

I think if they do catch any of them they should make there parents pay for clean up if they don't or cant pay then the parents or parent and child should be held accountable in some form of the law. I believe that if a parent or guardian is not held accountable for the actions of there child nothing or will be done. And yes I also believe that there parents don't care as long as it is not there property. So I guess you have to hit them in the wallet or put them on a graffiti clean up crew and see how much they like cleaning the garbage they put up. We pay taxes and the money we use to clean up graffiti could be spent in other productive ways. JUST MY OPINION

  • j.d.v.d. neighbor

It seems that the graffiti hasvbecome an epidemic that is bot going away.

  • Actually it calmed down a little during the winter and there always is an up tick in it when the schools are off.

Front Iron Fence

I recently moved in to this neighborhood... I want to put a fence in front of my home, but I noticed that no one has a fence. Is there some regulation? No fences are allowed?

Every front fence that I walk by has the gate that's left open swinging out to the public walkway as this never stays closed. This happens because of shifting in the ground. You might want to keep that in mind when designing and getting estimates for you yard. The more on your property the more to maintain. Sure everything will be wonderful the first year but weather shifts the fences and gate and by next year the person you hire will be out of business and who's going to fix your fence and gate after it shifts. Make your gate swing inward when it's not locked. If the gate swings out the Gypsies still walk in and you can't stop mail delivery, so you can't lock it. We've had that happen to us with side fencing. Thank goodness my husband is handy. Take a walk around a fence filled neighborhood and see how many gates you need to close because but don't stay closed. Before making you final decision ask the fence person to have the gate swing inward.

  • Ski

Actually, a neighbor's front fence does not prohibit you from helping your neighbor. My neighbors have a 5' fence with a locking gate. I do not have a front fence. When I mow or bring out the snow blower, and it actually starts, I open their gate and mow their lawn or clear their walks.

It's that time to STOP THOSE WEEDS

If you see your spring flowers starting to bud like I have, it means the weeds are also beginning to spring up. I use Preen and Green to sprinkle in my flower beds, around the edges of my lawn and along my neighbors border. I do that because they're weeds become my weeds. Now is the perfect time to use Preen n Green because it kills seeds. In a couple months when we want to plant flower seeds the Preen n Green will be gone and you'll be able to plant flower seed. Does anybody want to discuss this?

Betterto install a camera and then you will be able to tell who the culprits are. I am sure that the reason that you want a fence is not cosmetic.
