Former Aldermanic Candidate for Chicago’s 23rd Ward, Anna Corral, endorses and joins Martin Arteaga’s for 23rd Ward Alderman campaign.

Corral, a health professional and community activists in the south west side of Chicago, had previously launched her campaign for Alderman in the 23rd ward. After several conversations and meetings with the Arteaga Campaign, Corral decided to “join forces” and work together to bring the much needed change in the 23rd ward.
“I found myself asking people to support my campaign or Martins. It was clear Martin had an organized campaign team and support from all over Chicago. Joining forces to work together for the 23rd ward and bring the change we need from the current administration made sense.” Said Corral.

Corral will join the Arteaga campaign as Community Outreach Director. “Having Anna’s endorsement and join our team is an honor. She cares a lot about the people in the 23rd Ward and like my self is a concerned parent and citizen who is tired of seeing the communities of the 23rd Ward being neglected.”

The 23rd Ward includes Midway International Airport and parts of Garfield Ridge, Clearing, Archer Heights and West Elsdon. But in the 2015 election, the ward also will spread south and east to take in parts of West Lawn, Chicago Lawn and other neighborhoods. The reconfigured 23rd Ward will see its Hispanic population jump from about 47 percent to around 67 percent.

Martin Arteaga Talks Development for the 23rd Ward!

Let's talk development. Let's talk University Village. Do you remember when Maxwell Street was much rougher and grittier than it is today? I can remember and I am sure you do, too, because it was not very long ago. I spent time at UIC and I was able to play a key role in that community center development. The result was a successful redevelopment and the creation of the popular and much-patronized University Village. Residents and tourists no longer have...

Residents and tourists no longer have to tolerate the grit, the abandoned buildings and the feeling of hopelessness that those things bring. Residents, tourists, students, passersby, and all can now enjoy walking, jogging, biking, and patronizing the safe and vibrant streets of University Village. This is a perfect example of how valuable resources can invested intelligently into the community so that EVERYBODY WINS.

To revitalize the 23rd Ward, we need community development and community outreach experience and HANDS ON LEADERSHIP. Throughout the ward we see vacant lots and abandoned buildings that are vandalized and underutilized. Let's take matters into our own hands. Let's revitalize the 23rd Ward. I'm ready and I'm up to the challenge. The time for change is now! We need to revitalize the Archer Avenue Business District and redevelop the area near Midway Airport. We need more business and jobs. This is what I will fight for as your next 23rd Ward Alderman.

I've worked for the City of Chicago for 15 years, as a watchman, laborer, and the last 5 years as a ward coordinator under the Department of Street and Sanitation.  As a ward coordinator I was on the frontlines and had a chance to work closely with the Ward's Alderman. I had an Opportunity to be at the Alderman's side and assist in the day to day operation of a Chicago City Ward. I've been active in politics for the last 30 years from the grassroots up and am no stranger to Chicago politics.

I'm currently seeking to run for the seat of Alderman of the 13 Ward. I've lived there with my wife Kathy and 4 sons for 13 years. I'm currently a volunteer patient advocate at the University of Illinois Medical Campus. My goals for the 13th ward includes preventing violence in our community, providing vital services, and cleaning up our neighborhood, to bring a real change to the City of Chicago, and by offering my experience to better serve our community.

Luis"checo"Pacheco

  • WAY TO GO Reformer as all of us in the ward know that the best and quickest way to get City Services is to call the ward office. The staff at both offices are very good at what they do and Alderman Quinn is a very hands on Alderman.

  • Since you never see your Precint Captain, out of curiosty what Precint do you live in?

Computer Fraud

I've been receiving calls from 953-267-6390 pretending to be from Windows Operating System. They are very hard to understand but the caller wants me to go to my computer and they will show me what is wrong with me computer. They call constantly and a couple years ago they claimed to be with Microsoft. Has anybody else received this call?

  • For Comcast users a simple way to block unwanted calls is to dial *60 and follow the options. It is easier and faster than going to the web site.

  • Thank you Dave I dialed *60 and typed in all the numbers that I do not want calling me. So if my friends can't get through than I made a mistake, sorry. Just kidding. So far no calls from the unwanted numbers. So Peaceful!

Alderman for the 13th ward.

The people outcries for change in Chicago. But to move forward you must have change.the age of the old machine is dead and career politicians are dinosaurs and set in their ways ,while they are in office this city will not see any change . We all need to be part of the solution to bring the citizens in this great city out to vote on the next election. Show we have voice and we need to make that voice a strong one.

I am the new supervisor at Strohacker Park. Like many people already said, I personally can not fix that park in one day. I did submit many work request to Chicago Park District. Also requested for big capital budget improvements for 2015/2016. There are over 250 parks in the city and work order requests are submitted daily. Little patience here. This park is not a $500 fix. Little things can slowly be done but other things need budget approvals. So far we are getting new playgrounds in Fall of this year and I think that's a big step in the right direction. This park stayed unstaffed due to economy crisis few years back and budget cuts. Many business shut downed, many people lost their jobs, including park employees, and many lost their homes. I am still young but I do understand that when economy is bad, then there is not much that we can do. Economy is slowly picking up, Chicago Park District secured some funds and they are doing everything in their power to fix over 250 parks in the city of Chicago. Give me a chance as a supervisor to fix it up. Chicago Park District is aware of the situation. To my knowledge, I am the NEW supervisor and I am the ONLY one with Chicago Park District that will do something about it. If ANYONE has any issues or concerns about this park, please see me. I grew up as a kid at the parks, my parents worked 10-14 hrs shifts so park was my 2nd home. I learned sooo much from park staff at the time and with the love of the park patrons and the staff I made my decision as young kid that this is what I want to do in life. I want my 2nd home to be also 2nd home to many kids in the neighborhood. I worked soooo hard to where I am today. I started with the parks as volunteer since age 13 and started working once I turned 16. Park is my life. 15 years later I am here fighting strong. I don't have to say much more. Chicago Park District is not only my job, it's my passion and most important it is my life, my one and only life.

  • You will do great things because your passion drives your spirit. I will not say good luck cause I don't believe in luck. Its all about working hard for what you believe in. I will be in there soon to lend a hand if you allow it. Take care.

Pedestrian Friendly Crosswalks

Safe Streets for Chicago is a law in Chicago which requires vehicles to stop for pedestrians allowing them to cross at intersections. Safe Streets for Chicago is a law in Chicago which requires vehicles to stop for pedestrians allowing them to cross at intersections. If the intersection does not have a traffic light, there will be painted parallel lines from one corner to the other, or a series of painted bars between the parallel lines connecting the corner to the other.

Chicago recently started enforcing drivers to stop for pedestrians by issuing traffic tickets. That brings up some issues:

(1) Individuals or a group of individuals needing to cross to a School or Park.

(2) Dog walkers

(3) Individuals waiting for CTA buses, and

(4) and People simply waiting at crosswalks

No. 1 - is self-explanatory.

No. 2 - is understandable, until today ... I approached an intersection, there was a woman with her small dog at the corner. She allowed him/her to sniff out the area, relieve itself, then quickly pulled it to crossed in front of me. I understand drivers need to stop, but pedestrians need to give some kind of indicating they intend to cross.

No. 3 - Many times I see individuals at bus stops simply walk out into the street, drivers do not know if you intend to cross, or are looking for your bus.

No 4 - I have seen individuals standing as if they are prepared to cross but make no attempt to do so. I am not sure if they are too intimidated to cross, waiting for a ride, or merely waiting for someone.

I remembered when I was in Canada in the mid 1990's. They had crosswalk bars painted on the street for pedestrians similar to ours.

Me: "How do you know when to stop for a pedestrian?"

Driver: "They stick out their hand sideways."

Hey Chicago, maybe we need to start something like this to help approaching drivers.

  • As an avid walker I will say I am afraid of the drivers. I can't tell you the number of times u have been nearly ran over at traffic lights stop signs etc. and then they them I get screamed at & swore at fir getting in their way. So I try err on the way of caution let them go

  • Contact Martin Arteaga he's running for 23ward alderman and he's on this mission to better the streets for the community.

  • Pedestrian laws are not being enforce and they should be tthen will driver would be more careful.

Anybody want to talk about the Water bill?

I feel defeated and less of a person who normally has a say so and I don't know what to think and/or do other than just pay the shocking increased water bill. This just does not feel right. It feels like an attack. Now I feel there are two sides in this city. US AND THEM. Is this the democracy we all know? Why the increase and when was the first we heard about this?

So with that being said, how is this 100% increase in the cost of water substantiated? This is big time bullying. If you do not get a water meter then your bill increases by 100%.

  • SETROC Here I am Roc you like a hurricane

    keep voting democRAT.

  • If the city is in need of money and hike the price of water to obtain more money, how will the city make money when everyone gets a meter? I read all the comments about how much money were going to save when we get a meter. Think about it. In my opinion metered folks are going to get hammered eventually in excess of what non-metered people got.
