BREAKING: “University of Chicago to bid for Emanuel presidential library”

CHICAGO, February 9 (AP)—The University of Chicago is quietly preparing a proposal to build the Rahm Emanuel Presidential Library, officials here say, even though the Chicago mayor has not yet been elected to the White House or even declared his intention to run.

I am thankful for the timely information about the U of C and its plans for several, it seems, Presidential Library's but this is just to far in the future for a 73 year old man to handle...It has been my belief that the U of C is a campus surrounded by legions of intelligence but not it seems in this case...The U of C is always looking for donors to help their on going budgets but spending these kinds of monies for a candidate who isn't even a candidate as of yet is not what I would call frugal...I'm just saying.....

Giordano's @ 5311 S. Blackstone

The Manager at this location is very rude. Last Saturday, I called and ordered several pizzas for "delivery," to my dismay there were no drivers available. The Manager at this location is very rude. Last Saturday, I called and ordered several pizzas for "delivery," to my dismay there were no drivers available. So I contacted a friend to see if they would "pick up" the pizzas which they graciously agreed. I called Giordano's and asked if they would take my credit card over the telephone to pay for the pizzas and the employee said no. So I asked to speak to the Manager. I explained the situation "no drivers available" I am not able to drive and I have someone to pick up the pizzas and asked if he could take my credit card number over the phone. Without hesitation or conciliation, he vehemently said "NO" in (to say the least) a "rude and unprofessional manner". Then I reminded him that his business offered delivery service and that none was available so could we compromise. Then the Manager became loud and aggressive in an unrecognizable tone that he would not and hung the phone up. Although the Hyde Park community boast on the taste of Giordano's Pizza (I agree) I will no longer do business with an establishment that wishes to accept my money but offers no respect to me as a customer. DON'T ALLOW GIORDAN'S @ BLACKSTONE TO GET AWAY WITH THIS TACTIC. PIZZA IS AVAILABLE AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS IN THE Hyde Park Area such as Leona's, Medici's, and Pizza Capri which appreciates its customers and the pizza is just as good.

  • Darlene,
Yes, you are correct but if the individual's signature does not match the one on card, the merchant may refuse the transaction at their discretion.😏

  • Absolutely, that's a fraud prevention requirement.

Trees on 53rd

Does anyone know if there are plans to replant the stretch of trees that were cut down along both sidewalks of 53rd near Nichols Park? I'm really hoping so! Or are these trees casualties to the Vue 53 project?

Dear Most Remarkable, I'd be interested in seeing the traffic studies which show that the development will create traffic gridlock. The development will be steps away from a CTA bus stop, and just a few blocks west of a Metra station. I lived in the Del Prado (53rd Street & Hyde Park Blvd) for two and half years, and many of the residents of that building did not drive vehicles, but used public transportation. Thus, while there may be traffic (cars coming and going) will it be greater than that generated by a gas station and a car wash recent establishments at the site of the proposed Vue 53? In Chicago and elsewhere, people live in residences without driving and/or owning cars. However, very few people frequent gas stations or car washes sans a vehicle. I too feel that there is too much car traffic in Chicago, and that's why I am a proponent of transit oriented developments. I think that we should argue for the development offering the minimal number of required parking spaces. In terms of gridlock, the unnecessary parking lot in front of Kimbark Plaza should be eliminated to decrease traffic and create a more vibrant pedestrian experience. I'd like to see the storefront brought up to the street leaving space for existing restaurants to have sidewalk cafes. Dear Kristen L. I agree that affordability is very important. However, when we sacrifice neighborhood improvement for the sake of affordability, you end up with a neighborhood which is less desirable and one which can no longer afford to extend to its residents the amenities they should expect. I think that we should advocate that new developments include an appropriate number of affordable units.

    Thank you, Greg. Bravo!
