Disposal of Old Stove

Purchased a new stove today. Anyone know a junk man to take the old one away for scrap. I'm laughing to myself. I guess I could stand out in the alley and wait for him to appear. Hee! Hee! p.s. I'm on the 2nd floor. I'm on 38th and Archer - 2nd floor.

  • Just put it in the alley. Most junk men always cruise the alleys looking for scrap.

  • I know I certainly can do that but I'm 5'2" and 64 years old. Getting it out there is the dilemma. I bumped into a junk man yesterday and hopefully he will be my solution. I'm hopeful he will give me a call and come up stairs for it. :)

  • If it still works or kinda.put an ad out.. 'As Free to good home" And let them take it for you,

38th and Campbell

Ummmm - there is a commercial vehicle that keeps parking on the block which takes up two spots with a temporary permit on it. Help me out here. Are there laws that prohibit that? It parks there quite often - someone who does cabinetry. And also a chair has been dumped on the grass near the alley. It's been rained on and it's an eye sorer. Come on people. Have some pride.

  • If the truck has commercial plates, it can only park in a residential area while conducting business (eg while installing cabinets). Otherwise, it is not supposed to park there. I would leave a note on the window, if you feel safe and comfortable doing so. Otherwise I would report to 311.

  • truck parking laws and which streets are considered residential is a mystery, and its hard to get a definitive answer.

  • woodwrkr cabinet maker

There used to be a cooling and heating commercial van parking in front of my home every night. I called my alderman and they took swift action. Now I can get to park closer to home instead of Parking a block away..

LOST DOG: White Pitt Bull with dark spots

White female pitt bull with laight brown spots ran away on the 5200 block of Keating Ave. (did not have her collar on since she was recently bathed). Responds to the name of Pepsi.

Please respond to this post if you have any information. THANK YOU!

  • Ev

I just saw the report you filed with Lost Dogs Illinois and Pepsi is at CACC on Western. Please hurry and get there TODAY as I see she has been there since the 13th and their new policy stray hold time is 3 days! Which means tonight by 7 she is off stray hold and I don't want nothing to happen to her, or a rescue to pull her. Get there ASAP!! Here's the link to her photo there: http://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=CHGO.A126494

I very much hope that Pepsi has been located and is back with her family.

Ev, I know you are well-intentioned, but I think you're more alarmed about the new Animal Care and Control policy than you need to be. Please take a look at this article:

Under the new ordinance, it is true that after three days Animal Control can now release an animal to a rescue organization. However, the minimum of five days until euthanasia is considered remains the same. So, the intent and effect of the ordinance is to enable animals to be transferred to rescue organizations sooner, which is generally a lot better for them than lingering longer than five days at CACC. For that reason, PAWS supports the ordinance. According to the founder of PAWS, "It’s not going to put the animal at risk of euthanasia, but what it will do is get it a transfer to a shelter, and the reason that’s important is for most of these animals, five days there is a death sentence."

I have a lot of respect for PAWS. They do terrific work. Overall, I think the changes, whether they save the city money or not, will help more animals survive. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding of what the new ordinance actually means. Yes, there may be a rare occasion, such as the one with Pepsi, when the process becomes more difficult for a lost animal's family because the animal has been transferred after three days. On the whole, however, a lot more animals will have a chance at life by being transferred to PAWS or another rescue organization as quickly as possible. For the vast majority of animals at CACC, who were either intentionally brought there or who will never be looked for by anyone, going to a different shelter is by far the best alternative.

Have called several times to city services

I have been asking for CPD to remove vehicles or ticket. Sometime now CPD has not ticket or removed vehicles there left vacant . The corner of Pershing and Homan in the summertime House across the street has massive parties they keep our residents up all night because of loud music and no parking available during those times and same people have mass parties use that cubbyhole on Pershing and homan as a drinking facility (as after hours spot )or mechanic shop . It needs to STOP my message to those residents who use cubbyhole as a bar or mechanic shop you need to get your own proper license and your own proper building to have those businesses.

  • You just missed an opportunity to talk directly to the officers that patrol that location. Pershing and Homan is on Beat 821, and I would recommend that you attend the next CAPS beat meeting for that beat on April 1st. It will be held at 7:00 PM at St. Bruno's...

You just missed an opportunity to talk directly to the officers that patrol that location. Pershing and Homan is on Beat 821, and I would recommend that you attend the next CAPS beat meeting for that beat on April 1st. It will be held at 7:00 PM at St. Bruno's School at 49th & Harding. Bring a few neighbors with you to show that the community is unhappy with the situation and the lack of enforcement by the police. With warmer weather on the way, it's only reasonable to expect this problem will get worse. Meet your beat officers face-to-face to express your concerns. No guarantees, but it may help.

  • OOPS!! My Bad. Pershing Road is the dividing line between the 8th & 9th Districts west of Kedzie. The railroad property is in the 8th District, but the residential area on the north side of Pershing is in the 9th District. The beat is Beat 911, not Beat 821. I...

Sorry for the earlier misinformation. I hope you can get some positive results with your situation.

  • Justin K. McKinley Parker since 2008, south sider since 1998

They're building a 1:1 scale replica of the Old Bus Barn to honor CTA busing.

Actually, I hear that a Planet Fitness and maybe some other retail is planned to move in there ...

  • I believe it's going to be a L.A. Fitness and a bunch of smaller stores

  • diabetis citizen

a mini mall. Start bucks, little stores

Big Teardown

does anyone know what the plan is for where that big old gym/auditorium on archer, near the dunkin donuts, and not to far from the old cta bus barn? Pray its not going to be a wallmart . I love the older architecture, it has so much more character than a modern strip mall. every time we loose an old building we loose a piece of our soul. its a shame it couldn't of been turned into a performing arts community center, a magnetic charter school, or even the george cardenas aldermanic library. We sure could use another park, and it could all be financed with red light cameras and TIF's.

That building was part of St, Agnes Church, an old Irish parish that was merged with St Joseph and St Anne on 38th Place and California, with the new parish being renamed and the old names lost.

The building on Archer was a gym, and they also held a lot of bingo nights there. They knocked down the empty St Agnes Church which stood on the northeast corner of Pershing and Washtenaw, the school is part of CPS, and the priests' residence was supposed to provide some kind of services to women, though without any signs out there now I don't know if that is the current use.

Recorder of Deeds has the parcel, composed of 13 lots, transferred from the Catholic Bishop of Chicago to Archer Two LLC (limited liability corporation), on Sept 26 2014, and mortgage of $1.32 million granted by Lakeside Bank.

  • This space looks like it's about the size of where a strip mall would go. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. I'd love another coffee (drive-thru) option in the area. Although I wouldn't mind seeing a condo building with better retail options below.

  • In place of the old CTA barn, I believe a Charter fitness is being constructed and a few smaller retail stores as well. I not sure what will replace the recreation hall.

Eddie Daniel will make one hell of a good Alderman

Eddie Daniels has my vote, I have worked with him and he does listen and has always been there when a problem needed fixing. He knows how to work with people, he listens and does what he can to help – I have personally seen him come out and shove snow when city said their was no one available, came to CAP meeting to hear what residents needed and then worked to solve the problem with a smile on he's face, he is a true go-getter, he truly know the problems of the ward and has fought to improve them more then anyone knows. He has my endorsement and my vote without a doubt.
