SW-side Continues to Bury Head in Sand as Gov Quinn Gives $50,000,000 for Trails

As a former resident of Archer Heights and a former board member of the Archer Heights Civic Association, .... I told you so!

http://www.dot.il.gov/press/1%2030%2013%20ITEP%20-%20RELEASE.pdf

When will the leaders of the Sw-side wake up? When will the people of the SW-side (Archer Heights, Garfield Ridge, Clearing) wake up? There was a reason why I championed for a bicycle and nature path for many years. There was a reason why I repeatedly sought to meet with Ald.Burke, Ald. Zalewski, Cong. Lipinski. There...

Lipinski. There was a reason why I repeatedly tried to get the 'leaders' of the AHCA to support a bicycle path. If only for the reason to give energetic youth someplace to blow off steam rather than by breaking into garages and other 'crime'. But then the local papers wouldn't have much to write about.

Everyone knows (or they find out the hard way after years of trying) that to get anything done in Archer Heights one needs to have the 'leaders' figuratively present the idea on a platter of promissory votes to who ever is the alderman at the time (pick one from the above). The more pomposity the better. Yes?

One prostitute, two prostitute, three prostitute, four. Apparently there isn't enough time between counting prostitutes on 47th & Cicero or trying to get a 'senior discount' from the local politicians to champion any other cause.

The SW-side, Archer Heights specifically is the land where politicians go to retire before they retire. It's a community where one with just a HS education is comfortable. Check out the last census. Wasn't Gov Quinn a guest at the AHCA meeting earlier this year?

A bicycle path people. It's easy. Have the conversation, interest and preliminary design on the shelf ready to go for moments like this!

Neighborhood Improvement...or Not?

Recently seen on lightpost at corner of Archer Avenue and Kostner Avenue (right in front
of the bar--5173 S. Archer-- that was closed down due to shootings some time back):

A large poster showing an Application filed, date May 28, 2014 (signed by Alderman Michael Zalewski) for the purpose of changing this building site/property from a "B3-1" to an "RT4" (city-speak for a change from 'Community Shopping District' to '2-Flat-Townhouse and Multi-unit District', respectively).

If this is the same owner of the tavern (whose business attracted the riff-raff and shootings and supposed prostitution too), what 'good' would a change-up building code bring? HOPEFULLY, there has been a change in ownership too....

  • Thats why the zoning change so it CANT open as a bar again. The word is the building will be put up for sale as well.

  • The END has come for the bar at 5173 South Archer (Archer & Kostner) There is a bright orange REVOKED sign on the door

More good news from the AHCA.

Friday morning June 20 th, the AHCA revived the Library Garden Committee now that the sprinkler system is back up and running at the Archer Branch Library. The committee planted some hostas which were donated by an AHCA member and were advised that tomorrow, Wednesday, June 25 th, library facilities maintenance will be out to cut and trim all of the bushes, trees and evergreens. After this spruce up, the Library Garden Committee will be meeting once a week to weed, trim, cultivate and pick papers from the gardens.

The AHCA is asking for more volunteers to help on this committee which will have a very flexible schedule and anticipates a time commitment of only 2-3 hours per week. Each participant must sign a waiver. For further information, please contact the AHCA at their office 773-843-2232 and leave your name and phone number on their answering machine.

To quote from the AHCA Facebook page, "You do not have to be a plant expert to be on this committee; but we welcome those that have a desire to help maintain a neighborhood jewel". A picture showing the team at work is also posted.

  • Thanks to the AHCA for getting this committee going again.

But very interesting - checked out the AHCA FB page rergarding the picture AHG referred to and see the president and only ONE member helping out - thanks to you both. Seem to remember there were 3 - 4 people...

But very interesting - checked out the AHCA FB page rergarding the picture AHG referred to and see the president and only ONE member helping out - thanks to you both. Seem to remember there were 3 - 4 people posting to this site saying they were anxious to form a "do-gooder" committee to clean up and beautify Archer Heights. So quoting Peter, Paul & Mary "Where have all the flowers gone"?

Here is a committee doing good, so where are these "do-gooders"?

Speaking of Meters-- (both water and electric) known as 'Smart Meter' technology...

...the public needs to be warned that they are increasingly known to be a toxic health issue. On another note, they are becoming a 'civil rights' issue as well (e.g. two ladies in Naperville were arrested for refusing hook-up). Thirdly, they may not be (I would say, are not) the cost-savings (to you) devices they are being touted as.

On these several important points, the public should be very concerned and do their homework before just letting companies install these things nationwide as is currently taking place. There is a lot of discussion on the on the Internet in the last few years about this issue. Here are 3 links to get you started (and yes, I have been looking into it for quite a few years, and personally know people who have been adversely affected in their health) about these S.M. goings on that are not being disclosed or discussed in most conventional media sources".

I know our area is already being impacted by them (as well as 'speakers' from utility company speaking in public meetings-- only their side of the story of course), so it behooves us to educate ourselves about the potential (I would say, likely) deleterious effects of this new technology that is 'supposed to be good for us'.

  • There are alot of "bio hazards and hazards" we all have to worry about whether we like it or not. Really not much we can do about those. At least in our lifetime. It's great that you are educating yourself and passing it along. However the meters will soon be mandatory.

  • Cougrrrr,

Sure, it goes without saying that "a lot of biohazards/hazards" exist, but I refute that we as a populace have to accept this as:

    1) it's a done deal
    2) a 'defacto' done deal

We the people are NOT powerless (though the powers-that-be would like I to buy

We the people are NOT powerless (though the powers-that-be would like I to buy
that belief lock, stock and barrel).

Here is a 10-minute video about another egregious
assault-enforced vaccinations-- (this time, from the Federal level) on human health.

I hope you would watch this short video (as the 'Civics Lesson' in it can be extrapolated to the issue of this Smart-meter program). It shows a hopeful outlook and real-time activism by 'you and me' people who have worked toward and put a stop to, a program that (much like these smart-meters) has been foisted upon us without any public input or over-sight...or objection.

    http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/06/10/nvic-vaccine-policy-law-reform.aspx?e_cid=20140610Z1_DNL_art_1&utm_source=dnl&utm_medium=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20140610Z1&et_cid=DM47701&et_rid=549898097

The point being, one does not have to give up all hope with ones liberties 'just because' you are being bullied (not by schoolyard bullies this time), but by utility companies and governments who are inventing noxious programs that affect people's health and pocket books, while the former profiteer.

That's why I have posted what I posted.
