This is is taken verbatim from a yesterday post on the Archer Heights Civic Associaton Face Book Page.

As was announced at the AHCA meeting this past Wednesday - 47th Street is to be closed from Pulaski Rd., east to Archer Ave. for installation of new sewers. From Alderman Burke’s office we now have the details.

The Department of Water Management will be installing new sewers on S. Harding Avenue from 47th Street north to 46th Street, and on west 46th Street from Harding to Hamlin Avenues . This new sewer will serve the area of Archer Heights from (N) 45th Street, (S) 47th Street, (E) Hamlin Ave. and (W) Pulaski Rd and is designed to improve drainage and reduce risk of flooding in that section of our community.

This project will start on Monday, February 2nd and run through February 6th (weather permitting) and 47th Street will be closed from Harding for three to four days to connect the existing sewer. Traffic will be detoured along 47th Street - Pulaski Rd. and Archer Ave. Everyone will always be able to reach their home or business. Outside of working hours (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM), a lane will be left open for LOCAL TRAFFIC ONLY. Thru traffic will not be allowed at any time and NO PARKING will be posted during work hours.

Please remember the schedule is subject to weather conditions and may take longer. For any questions please call Alderman Edward Burke’s Ward office – 773-471-1414.

Also announced at the Wednesday AHCA meeting was the closing of the 47th & Kedzie intersection also for sewer installation. We do not have any details on that project at this time.

Demolition Permit issued for shutterd Brandy's Restaursnt at Archer Cicero

On November 7th a permit was issued for the demolition of the old Brandy's Restaurant on the SW corner of Archer & Cicero and an announcement of what will be built on that site will be made at tomorrow's Archer Heghts Civic Assocaition meetinig.

Although the corner is not in Archer Heights, the AHCA tires to keep tabs on events/ issues happeninig along the community border.

  • Pretty in Pink Happy Wife Happy Life

I'd like to see a good authentic Cuban/PR or Tapas Restaurant out this way. We always have to go downtown or the northside. Just no more Mexican restaurants. There's just too many.

  • I'd like to see a HENRY's ...Or return of GOSSAGE GRILL!! Starbucks SUCKS! I'd rather see a CASINO then a Starbucks!

Can anyone answer-Q: re: Com Ed billing & Chicago Residential 2-flat home:

Hi,
Can anyone provide help (i.e. based on real-time experience) in answering this

Hi,
Can anyone provide help (i.e. based on real-time experience) in answering this
(I'm asking this question for an elderly homeowner who cannot get on the phone and discuss this with Com Ed-- and go through all the rig-a-maroll of trying to obtaining an answer and avoid a possible problem or charges if service is changed in any way):

Q-- If one owns an old 2-flat home in Chicago, and the household receives SEPERATE
monthly bills for each flat, and if one of these flats becomes UNOCCUPIED (i.e. not using electricity) but the owner doesn't want to completely disconnect/close the account
on that unused flat's meter,
IS THERE a Com Ed program (this is the utility co. the person has an account with) that can be requested by the homeowner to reduce the monthly bill to 'BARE BONES' for that unused apt. (until it is re-occupied-- which many not be for many months)?

I am trying to help give a simple answer to an elderly homeowner to help reduce monthly expenses, but have searched Com Ed's website and do not find any information that addresses such a scenario.

From all I could tell, maybe their 'real-time' usage program might be the answer (but then I read that they bill an extra charge (unstated as to amount or if it was to be monthly or a one-time charge) to use this program-- so doubt there would be any reduction in the bill after all.

Com Ed doesn't seem to make it easy to get answers via their website....

So, if anyone has had experience with this and can provide an answer or
advice pertaining to the Q....I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

  • Dam good question! I hope to see an answer on this to!

  • Good Morning,
I'm sure maybe they can suspend service until next tenant moves in . I work with comEd and Zoom Energy. Let me know if you need any other information

    Hello Juanita,

And thank you for your reply.
Well, yes, I would appreciate 'other information', if you can supply it here.
Like, specifically, what is Com Ed's 'suspension of service program' (I don't find
it on there website, that is why I am asking. I know, to 'suspend' would be, to
put service temporarily on hold (like when you go on vacation and ask the Post
Office to 'hold your mail' until you return). But--the point-- I want to help the person
money save money. So, I need to first identify if 1) Com Ed DOES actually have such
a program 2) What is the service charge involved, and would it be a one-time charge or monthly 3) Where can I get details of this program (i.e. 'get it in writing', and not
just by hearsay or talking to a rep over the phone.

So, you see, that is the "other information" I would need to proceed to be of any help to the person.. IF you know any of the answers to these questions, I would (and it looks as if (;~}) Fellow Resident...would too) appreciate your response here.
    Thanks, again.

If two- count 'em, 2-- Starbucks (and we all know how expensive their drinks and other store items are-- items that we don't REALLY need to survive- coffee addicts not included here) that will exist only several blocks apart can make it in this area, why not one Whole Foods (that sells food--and lots of more nutritious, organic food, that we all need to survive-- that would 'do a body good"...and a family too)? And what about catching those health-minded Midway tourists to buy their 'health-food' at a
    nearby W.F.'s.?

  • Chet 606 Rogers Park, NOHavana, CE

There are plenty of people in and out of AH that would appreciate quality food. Plus the traffic to/from Midway and commuters who drive to AH to jump on the Orange Line. Not everyone needs or is expected to shop at WF, but for those that want to, bring it on!
