Patrick Daley Thompson's campaign fund approaches 400k???

Thompson's A-1 financial report reveals that as of yesterday he has received over $290k in donations from contributors who gave at least 1k. Add to that his fundraisers, PAC contributions and donations under $1k and this total easily goes passed 400k. Here's the kicker though. 91% (265k) of the donors on that A-1 report are from people or businesses from addresses outside the ward boundaries.

  • Geri retired ARRT

And look at Kozlar's disclosure.... there's no one there who wants anything for donating. Hmmmm....is that all the money he has? No law professors making donations? No other friends who live outside the ward making a donation? Let's be fair...can you show us all the donors to Kozlar? They might not be able to afford what PDT's donors can, but even for $10 you can't be sure they won't expect something...it's all about politics, yessssir.

Thompson is acting just like the rest of them - trying to buy this election. The people had enough. I keep getting this ridiculous mailers from Thompson lying about Kozlar and every time I get it, it makes my vote for Kozlar that much stronger.

Empty Store Fronts for Daley Thompson

Am I the only one enjoying the great irony with seemingly every empty store front in our neighborhood having a Daley Thompson sign in the window, and sometimes multiple signs?

Never mind I just received my third mailer this week from the Thompson campaign throwing around the "wall street" canard when it comes to Kozlar. How exactly does the Daley Thompson campaign think that pension dollars are invested?

  • g...... resident

I hope the two 11th ward aldermanic candidates see GRD's comment. These are the types of things that the city council should be doing.

  • John W. More equal wealth based on more equal work

GRD, I am pretty sure that taxes on commercial property are based on the income it generates. There is a Walgreen's at the northeast corner of Harlem and Archer. Walgreen's tends to get 20-year leases when it contracts for a new building.

GRD, I am pretty sure that taxes on commercial property are based on the income it generates. There is a Walgreen's at the northeast corner of Harlem and Archer. Walgreen's tends to get 20-year leases when it contracts for a new building.

The Walgreen's in question was built about 2 decades ago. We were checking on some properties in the area to substantiate or refute rumors about busineses moving, when we looked up that Walgreen's. Amazingly, the assessed value dropped quite quickly from one year to another. The only inference we could make was that the 20-year lease ran out, and Walgreen's was threatening to move without a steep cut in what they were paying for rent. With a much lower income, the assessed value is less.

Of course, there would have to be an arm's length lease. You could not rent a storefront to your spouse or sister at 10% of what neighbors are paying, and ask for a lower assessed value.

I don't know if any of the business districts that are right on the street will survive, at least not on the south side of the city, where people have cars. All along Archer (except for a half-mile in Brighton Park) storefronts are empty except for signs saying they are for rent or for sale. All that's left are offices, medical, insurance, legal, accounting.

I've even seen vacancies on 26th -- no doubt, influenced by Daley's parking scheme.

Something Else to Consider when voting for 11th Ward Alderman

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/03/26/sanitary-district-cop-caught-on-tape-talking-about-sleeping-and-drinking-on-the-job/

The above is a link to a story new to WBBM radio today. Maybe you'll want to ask the candidates about the truth of this story, and if Thompson pleads ignorance, I guess he was not very involved -- except for the paycheck -- in running the MWRD.

  • I read the above link (and all the others, thanks) There was some very strong launguage used in the above link. The MWRD seems to be a diverse group of elected officials. It reminded me of the fire department situation that was on the news a few years ago. So, my question is: Is there an oversight board that is taking steps to deal with the situation and how would this effect an elected official in our community?

  • "language" (small keyboard got me again).

Hedge-fund manager & Rahm's corporate point man just gave $10,800 to Daley Thompson's campaign.

Come on people, the writing is on the wall! Daley Thompson is just like the rest of them and only cares about making his pocket bigger. We don't need another one of these corporate influencers representing us and trying to buy our votes. Let's stand up for our community and make a change.

I have been watching the debates, attending the forums and reading both candidates websites. The past few weeks I have been more and more unimpressed with Patrick Daley Thompson but I was still going to vote for him. Now with this mailer that is full of false claims I am voting for Kozlar. If you read and watch all of Kozlars comments he has repeatedly been against raising property taxes, he is obviously not a Republican and he isnt tied to Wall Street. He probably voted against Rauner in the primary, just as I did and now he is labeled a Republican. Give me a break. I dont trust Patrick Daley Thompson after this mailer. He is obviously very desperate to be the Alderman for some reason and I dont think it is to help the residence of the ward.

Daley must be defeated. He and his entire thief family has to be completely removed from doing any business whatsoever in the city that they have single handedly destroyed by their corruption. Look at Daleys contributors in this race. Electing him will be a vote for the same corruption that his crook family has bought us.

  • totally agree, tired of the daley regime.the only ones benefitting from that is the daley family and all his friends

which was located at 12th & Cypress St. (now Roosevelt Rd. and Hoyne Ave.)
Does anyone have photos of this section of Roosevelt Rd. showing

Bridgeport Home Burglary (3200 Block of Aberdeen)

My house was broken into and ransacked yesterday. There seem to have been a few burglaries lately, so keep your eyes open. They rang the door to see if anyone was home, then came through the alley, broke out 2 doors and quickly removed commuters, tvs, and jewelry from our home. Fortunately no harm to our animals. If you saw any strange people or groups of people in the alley of the 3200 block of Aberdeen yesterday or have a camera pointed in that direction please let me know in this message. Stay safe and vigilant Bridgeport.

John Kozlar did great tonight!

I am now voting for Kozlar. He was concise and appropriately stopped Thompson from going on a political rhetoric rant. What is up with Daley Thompson and wanting to raise our property taxes? I know he can afford to pay a property tax increase, but many of us cannot. Let's show up and make a real change around here!!!

Patrick Daley Thompson makes page A3 of “The Wall Street Journal” this morning

I was reading the print copy this morning of the "The Wall Street Journal" when I came across the article, but here is the internet link:

We can rid ourselves of the Daley's right now. I am really becoming a big fan of Kozlar because he offers something new and a path not traveled. I really think he can do a great job if given the chance to work with our community. If we do not like the work of Kozlar after four years, then we can vote him out. If another Daley gets in there again, then we will be repeating history and nothing will change.

Otherwise why would EVERYBODY still be parked there today? We aren't masochists. I tried to look for a cop but I couldn't find anyone. I called the city of Chicago and they told me to contest the ticket. That goes without saying, but I think something else needs to be done. It is ridiculous to give less than a 24-h warning before towing cars and someone has to pay/apologize for this. End of rant!

Loomis Bridge. . .

What is going on? The north(-ish) bound lanes are blocked every morning. But the south-bound lanes are open. Ashland is way crowded. When will the work be done?

  • They took down the chain link fence and put lights on the tops of the fence poles. There were people making sure no one was using the sidewalk over the bridge for the last few days. I have a feeling it was for whatever they are filming in the area.

  • 1331st enemy of "dibs"

I talked to two guys this morning. One was "security" and the other a worker. I don't think they'll block traffic any more but the northbound sidewalk remains closed because the fence is down as Radio Relay said. It certainly has nothing to do with repairing the bridge itself.

Two men were recently given money for being wrongfully imprisoned. The first link is to an Ohio case, where the man was awarded about $1 million, based on Ohio's reimbursement rate of about $51K per year. The man spent about 39 years in prison, and the judge ordered 50% be put into an annuity for him.

The second link is to an Illinois prisoner, who is settling for $20 million. He spent 20 years in prison, -- half the time the Ohio man did -- but he is getting 10 or 20 times the payout.

How can Illinois afford this? Why don't we have a standard reimbursement rate, as Ohio does, instead of leaving this to 'compassionate' or just plain goofy juries? Could it be that there are too many lawyers here? And they have too much influence on our politicians?

Before anyone answers that the $20 miillion is fair, keep in mind that many of our soldiers have come back from the service damaged in a variety of ways, that they will never be made whole, and we do not give them millions. They're lucky if they can get an appointment at the VA.

  • Lucy Lucy, 56, longtime resident.

That is an excellent question!!!!! And.....it is only one of so many others. The people who are falsely imprisoned deserve compensation, but so do our soldiers, maimed, or otherwise.

  • West loop realist Teacher political operative

Enough if the crying for free money. Soldiers deserve to be paid first. Ours is the only civilized country that treats its veterans poorly. This is where the real reparations should begin.

Politics as usual. Daley Thompson is using his clout to infiltrate people just to get a vote. It's the Daley's people, come on. They've been in this business for years to get votes and make people feel warm and fuzzy. I just hope people are not being bought out by Thompson and his cronies.

I never campaigned for anyone who ran for any political office, and I didn't always vote the "way" I was supposed to vote....and I'm still here!..nobody downtown got me my job, which isn't political and I am not politically connected. And besides, I'm too tall to bend over and kiss anyone's butt.
BTW, why aren't you running for Alderman?

And Doggie2.....my comments about Kozlar : I simply said that I thought he was too green for the job. I'd like to know he has a greater knowledge of city government (and not just from college courses) before he takes on a job like Alderman. . Doesn't that bother you? I've only seen him once, and yes, he appears to be nice guy, and so is PDT. If Kozlar gets sucked in to all this negativity and bashing should he win I will be very disappointed. I hope he surrounds himself with folks who share his enthusiasm and vision. Of course, it will be interesting to see what kind of cronies he'll attract. Who knows, he may surprise me....
And mark my word, the press is just waiting for a chance to look for skeletons in his and perhaps his family's closet. That's really pathetic.

Hi all- Just a quick update regarding viaduct health and safety concerns. I was invited to a meeting with Congressman Lipinksy (senior member of the Illinois delegation on the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure), BNSF, UP, Norfolk Southern, & other officials to discuss the crumbling and unsanitary viaducts. This was coordinated by Patrick Daley Thompson and I must say we had a productive meeting to discuss next steps for our communities. I would like to add that I invited Mary Mitchell from the Sun Times and folks were surprised to have press on board during this meeting/tour. I realize there is a lot that goes into voting for our next alderman. I am still committed to seeing more women in leadership (discussed at length with Patrick and I foresee more engagement with women at the table for community planning), but in the meantime, let's get someone in office who will help to push for some important changes in our communities. If you have not signed the petition, you can do so at www.chicagoviaduct.com. Special thanks to all the volunteers who are on the ground and monitoring viaduct conditions for a safer community. I have met with all the volunteers on the team and I am impressed with the dedication to push for important changes. #health #safety #chicago #leanin #notafaid http://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/7/71/445570/11th-ward-aldermanic-hopeful-seizes-viaduct-issue

That one and others are like the place that time forgot. Filled with trash and large debris, any paved road gone, one even had an open sewer under it. It's unacceptable for any part of the infrastructure to be allowed to deteriorate so badly.

Thanks Kasia. So far I have recruited a bunch of residents near University Village area and we have designated viaduct monitors to keep an eye out for "issues"- lights out, debris, dead animals, trash. We also ensure at least bi-weekly calls to street and sans for routine sweeping. This week a bunch of us showered Ald Balcer's office with requests for power washing. Spring is here and if these are not power washed at least quarterly then the odor is enough to kill you. Nancy Plax and Antonio Gonella are working on setting up mural plans etc. I am still hammering railroads for work. UP is on my hit list right now. They have every excuse in the book to avoid any little repair. There has to be something to enforce public nuisance issues via heavy fines, etc. What ever happened to being sponsor of community engagement and working to make things better. This is exactly why I believe we need strong leadership in place. I have tried to stay out of the main stream politics because in the end I just want a safer neighborhood and would love to see more community-exchanges happening between Bridgeport and Village areas. I have heard from Mr. Kozar via twitter and we tried to setup a meeting but my schedule is very tight these days. In fact, I would love to get a chance to meet JK personally and get to know him. I think he's cute, but don't tell him I said that! I don't think he has skillset "right now" to pull heavy-hitter politicians and rail executives together with the intent on fixing something. Regardless of who wins this election, our next alderman should know the community is full of active citizens who will forever be double-checking to ensure our issues our addressed. Let's all make it a point to do it. Call 311, pull peeps together, engage your neighbors to work on a community project, or join a non-profit group.

Reliable Contractor Needed!

I'm going to do some work on my house in May (three rooms, easy permits only) and need both a drywaller and a carpenter. Does anyone know someone reliable and experienced that they can recommend? Thanks!

  • My fiancé Frank does lots of rehabbing in private homes and apartment bldgs - from drywall to carpentry to tile and even some light plumbing and electrical. He is working on a home in St Louis until Sun and asked me to respond and let you know he is interested. I have sent an email with his information and how to reach him.

  • Figured I'd post my message in the event others are looking for a stellar contractor.

My contractor, Bill is top-notch and I highly recommend him and his drywaller/painter, Gus. The quality of their work is superior!! There is nothing they can't do and as in my case came up with...

My contractor, Bill is top-notch and I highly recommend him and his drywaller/painter, Gus. The quality of their work is superior!! There is nothing they can't do and as in my case came up with some great space-saving solutions and high-end amenities like LED under cabinet lighting on a dimmer and so much more. Worth every penny. My loft is amazing thanks to them. Bill Urbanski, American Masters (708) 921-9373. Licensed and insured. He books up quickly.

Kozlar/Daley Thompson WTTW Debate

Young Johnny K. is looking tough and aggressive. Daley Thompson is yacking about casinos and increasing taxes.

  • The intended purpose of those "candidate forums" is irrelevant. They were public forum debates. Based on his performance, I understand why Daley-Thompson would not want them characterized as debates.

And Kozlar did not say there would be no tax increase. He said he would vote against a tax increase because...

And Kozlar did not say there would be no tax increase. He said he would vote against a tax increase because he recognizes, as an alderman, he would be serving the best interest of those that elected him. Maybe they should look into cutting the tax funds received by the MWRD that are ultimately paid to Daley-Thompson's law firm that represents the MWRD? Aldermen are strictly prohibited from engaging in that type of self-dealing conduct because it is a conflict of interest.

Development at 35th / Ashland

We are curious what you would like to see at the south east corner of 35th and ashland?

This is a planned manufacturing district that has historically been home to the wrigley companies research and development division.

However, Alderman Balcer along with Commissioner Thompsons guidance has created a buffer which would allow for retail at the ashland side of the site. This process takes input. There's no purposal that we are aware of at the moment.

We would love to see a johnnys icehouse, wholefoods, vocational high school school and potentially some green space. One neighbor in a previous post suggested an ikea.

What would you like to see positively impact this part of our neighborhood?

  • How about a Panera and some other restaurants that we could walk to if we had to? No BIG BOX stores as there are enough in the area already. Regarding a sports complex no thank you, how many people would actually utilize this space? Let's bring some classy stores and restaurants to the neighborhood so we can keep our property values up!!!!

I'd like to see Halsted, Morgan, 31st St. and 35th St. developed for small business, arts and more restaurants. Places families could walk safely to. We have plenty of room for big and small. And no more massage parlors or tacky strip malls that look outdated and run down after a few years. The hard part is getting businesses to open here. The economy has picked up and the city needs to be more helpful in bringing businesses in. Too much time and money has been spent on Downtown, Mcormick Place, etc with the neighborhoods going neglected. We need to make sure that our voices continue to be heard on development issues.

Sausage, butcher shop meat?

Looking for a butcher shop, or a place that has really fresh meat. Somewhere besides the grocery store. With all the stockyards leftovers around here, is there anywhere I can get really good meat?
Thanks!

First of all I am 61 years old and used to shop for meat all along Halsted when Tony's and then his son Michael had their butcher shops. After they closed down there was the original Fairplay, then Halsted Foods and now Save-A-Lot. I shopped at that Fairplay and then at Halsted Foods and Rick(who is now part owner of the Save-A-Lot) has always assured me that Fairplay and Halsted always had USDA "CHOICE" meat..not just USDA. Now the Fairplay over on 47th has USDA "CHOICE" meat also and if you don't like what you see packaged over in the meat section (I am not talking about the ground beef that is 73% lean (which is all fat it seems to me) you can ask the butcher to cut you whatever you want and look at it first. I did that for Christmas and I got a fantastic Standing RIb Roast which he showed me first before he cut it. Also there is the service meat section which sometimes has sales and you can look at and pick and choose what meats you want from there. If you want USADA "CHOICE" or USDA "PRIME" you can ask for it...they cannot put that on the label if it is not truly that cut of meat. There are actually 8 grades of meat

    http://www.askthemeatman.com/usda_beef_quality_grades.htm

As far as the ground beef your best bet is the 84% lean or higher.

Sometimes you can get good fresh meat at Save-A-Lot. You have to be frugal and your best bet is to go when RICK is there on the weekends or at least when you can chat with a butcher (and they do have them there but they come in early and leave early).

Am I the only one who noticed this contribution!?

Vee Pak just donated $10,000 to Daley Thompson's campaign - this is the same Vee Pak who got Sued For Racial Discrimination By Local Workers! This is an outrage and i am disgusted by Thompson and all of his b.s.!

McGuane WINS!,,

After visiting several parks, McGuane officially has the FILTHIEST locker rooms in CPD!! I don't know how swimmers can walk barefooted! Not only the floors but the walls in shower areas have caked up grime/scum from floor to knee hi. DISGUSTING and EMBARRASSING!!! Sad that no one cares.

Kasia...next time sign up online.....right away.

  • cheesecake chick i want to be the person my dog thinks i am

keep in mind I am using the ladies locker rooms and have no experience in the men's.
I took aquatics over a year ago at McGuane. for several sessions.
    good class. nice water temperature.
now I am a northsider and swim at Shabbona Park.
their locker room could also use an upgrade, but it is clean.
I also wear my flip flops in any locker room, I don't care how clean the floor might look, one cannot see athlete's foot fungus......
