will50 building imspectors

Here is a fellow that replied to me that he doesn't care what I think. That was obvious from his first post and ok with me as well. We defeat the ignorant by living well . Has will50 really done his research ? Is he aware that the building in question was in court. Further is he aware the city did want that building demolished. The inspectors do not have that power. That power comes from a judge and if...

Has will50 really done his research ? Is he aware that the building in question was in court. Further is he aware the city did want that building demolished. The inspectors do not have that power. That power comes from a judge and if the judge doesn't issue the order it doesn't happen. Throwing around comments about people Taking money was not well researched either. Chicago probably has one of the most watched by federal government agencies in the nation keeping them honest whether by choice or forces to be that way that's the way it is. So negative. Hope your life gets better will50. I'm sure you will have something Ryde to say to me. Have at it make yourself feel good. I have talked way more than I have cared to you will get no more responses from me

Let the Gangs win

I think this is a message worth noting. This past weekend, our 14th Annual Block Party was abruptly cancelled due to a shooting that occurred the previous night. The incident involved three "reputable" gang members; in other words, they were the intended targets. The fact that these gang members are proud to make that admission is enough to prosecute them for organized crime and terrorism. I have lived in this neighborhood for over 25 years and have never seen a block party cancelled over similar incidents. There are shootings across the city every night. However, my issue is the mentality of our police who ask the peace makers to hide inside because they will arrive after a crime is committed. As far as I can see, the police are enabling the gang activity by allowing them to intimidate us and disregard our right to peace. Has anyone else experienced a similar occurrence?

I completely agree. If anything, the area has become less safe since spanning the digital divide-- everyone's inside facebooking away instead of providing eyes to the street.

I completely agree. If anything, the area has become less safe since spanning the digital divide-- everyone's inside facebooking away instead of providing eyes to the street.
The police we have around here tend to be either new, and hoping to get out of this district as fast as they can, or the bottom of the heap, placed here as quasi-punishment, with a few notable exceptions-- they don't understand our needs at all.
If they did, they'd know that
    a) West of the boulevard is where you'd want to cancel block parties that day, and
    b) things are typically very quiet for a while after these incidents.

Now I know who is most important in this neighborhood! The Chicago Police Department informed our block that there were not enough officers to have one stand guard while our entire block organized a peaceful event. We even tried to hire an off-duty officer However, CPD has the resources available to protect those same individuals that caused this gang violence; they are two squad cars guarding the front of 2700 S. Washtenaw protecting the gang since its finally funeral day. What a crock of SH*T the cops are!

I live just on the other end of the block from you, Neighborino23. (In fact, I live in the same building where the gangbanger funeral/wake was held last Thursday).

I'm new to the neighborhood and to Chicago in general. I'm working on getting my landlord to understand what a problem the residents in 2700 are, and hopefully he will not renew their lease when it expires. Any details you can provide would be helpful. Thanks!
