Door to door energy people?

Has anyone else had people coming to their door wanting to talk about your energy provider? A young man knocked on my door about it this afternoon and wanted to talk about it. He didn't identify himself. I asked how he got into our building and he said someone buzzed him in. I had him leave because we don't allow people to go door-to-door in our building soliciting. Was this guy legit or part of a scam I always hear going around?

  • robin in WRP Tired, very tired

You really need to call 911 on these people, and remind your neighbors to not buzz in anyone they are not expecting.

  • CINDEE in home E-bay business

It's definitely a scam. They want you to change your energy provider - offer sounds good but they get you in the end. REFUSED by me -told them I wasn't interested.

  • That exact same thing happened to my roommate, who also asked this person how they got into the building! In the end my roommate had to basically kick the person out because they wouldn't leave. Also supposedly they smelled like garbage and told him "don't look us up online because there are a lot of bad reviews where people claim it's a scam, but it's not".

Throop Park Revitalization? Help!

Hi Pilsen families! I am interested in working to revitalize Throop Park, on the corner of Throop & 18th. I did some research and except for a major overhaul done in 1976, the last time it was worked on was 1998!!!

Hi Pilsen families! I am interested in working to revitalize Throop Park, on the corner of Throop & 18th. I did some research and except for a major overhaul done in 1976, the last time it was worked on was 1998!!!

Some of the playground features are rusted out, broken, sharp and totally dangerous. There is gang graffiti on the cement bleachers around the basketball court. People walk their dogs to poop in there even though there is a sign that clearly states this is not allowed, most likely because pet owners know no one cares.

It has such amazing untapped potential but is currently so sad and frankly, quite unsafe for our kids. I've reached out to the 25th Ward Alderman in multiple ways with no response. Any insight on what steps I could take next to convince the powers that be to give it some much needed TLC?

Any feedback super appreciated!

And one thing that's really great about this court compared to others around Chicago is the concrete seating around part of the court.

Also wanted to throw an idea out there, if you are able to get something done in the park, why not engage the guys that do play basketball there to paint the court, similar to this court in San Juan:

    Hi All-

Thanks for such great feedback! Turns out, after sending a message to Alderman Solis, that he responded saying that Throop Playlot is slated to be renovated in 2014, just as one of you had mentioned. He said he agreed it was in need of some care. This is great news!

I just hope the basketball court gets a face lift too and that the endless throngs of people hanging out along the front gate becomes, I don't know, less intimidating? Is it just me? My kids don't even notice, they're just thrilled to be there - but I'm always concerned we're overstepping our welcome or something. I do tend to be an overthinker, though.

Again, appreciate all the really helpful ideas. (Love the idea of painting the court like the one in San Juan!)

Poor Wireless Broadband Service in 60608

Cricket Broadband was decent for 2 years for us.Then it began getting very slow. Cricket claimed 60608 was a problem area for them now..This month we switched to T MOBILE and their 4G Hotspot. We are shocked to find out it is even slower than Cricket. We have the $60 per month data package, it was refreshed 2 days ago and using Google Chrome page loads take an average of 2-3 min. If I need to get my important online volunteer networking accomplished I must go to the local coffee shop or the library.to get this work done in a timely fashion. Why does 60608 have such poor service from these providers?

  • I have been here for almost 3 years...Have had fairly consistent service with Clear. I also wouldn't use Google chrome all the time. It does take longer to load/etc.

  • If you're using phone service to connect to the internet at home you can ask for a personal tower. I know two people who had a hard time getting reception when at home and AT&T and T-Mobile provided personal towers at no cost.

Construction at 14th and Wood?

Anybody know what they're putting up in the area that's now fenced off on Wood between 14th and the viaduct, just west of Cosco? I guess it's technically just outside of Pilsen, but wondered if anybody had heard. It's gotta be something massive-- that's a bit piece of land for a single project. They just took down all the trees this week, sad to see that greenspace go.
