The consortium is comprised of business owners, organizations, clergy and residents in the community who come together regularly to discuss violence, its root causes in the community and action steps to end it.

The consortium is rooted in restorative justice practices and encourages all its fellow community members to participate in its actions by joining in and lending their powerful voice. Change starts with you.

The initiative was established in 2012 in answer to a series of public conversations across Chicago about the increasing problem of violence in our community and schools. Originally established as a component of the Governor's Neighborhood Recovery Initiative, the Consortium now serves as a point of contact for anyone interested in stemming community and school violence. In just a few years, the Consortium has gained community support from its comprehensive research and innovative program support.

The Consortium’s efforts are directed at providing:

Information and materials concerning the prevention of violence so that problems can be better identified and solutions can be developed;

Program development and implementation expertise and technical support to schools, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations so that programs have excellent chances of success;

Research and evaluation of school violence prevention programs so that schools and communities are better able to address their specific needs in effective action.

The Consortium's vision is that "every student will live in a community and attend a school that is safe and secure, one that is free of fear and conducive to learning."

We invite you to participate with us, help support your community. Contact us for the next meeting date, time and location.
