To prevent thieves from swiping the welcome sign, the chamber spent $4,000 on a concrete version on the northwest corner of 111th Street and Whipple Street, said Myers, who also owns Baron's Shoes at 3101 W. 111th St. in Mount Greenwood.

To prevent thieves from swiping the welcome sign, the chamber spent $4,000 on a concrete version on the northwest corner of 111th Street and Whipple Street, said Myers, who also owns Baron's Shoes at 3101 W. 111th St. in Mount Greenwood.

Eventually the sign fell and broke in half. The young adults responsible for the damage were captured by video surveillance courtesy of the nearby PrivateBank branch at 3052 West 111th St. in Mount Greenwood.

Undeterred, the chamber set out to raise money for a new sign with a series of spaghetti dinners. The third — and hopefully final — such fundraiser is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday at the Mount Greenwood Community Church, 3509 W. 111th St.

This time, the chamber is hoping to raise $5,000 for a new concrete sign that will be encased in brick. The design is intended to match a similar Mount Greenwood sign in the heart of the shopping district at 111th Street and Kedzie Avenue.

A true shame. No discipline. Extremely poor academics. A very unpleasant place. Teachers leave during class for smoke breaks. Kids are unruly in class and no one cares. No communication. Did I mention my kid got vegetable oil thrown on her during spirit week...in main hall inside school?

Poor. Out of control. Walking through the hallways during class changes is like being in a riot. Mold on walls in classrooms. Principal is so uninvolved. Education poor. Pay tuition or move to the suburbs. Teacher called my child a racist name the other day. Cannot wait to leave.

Horrible. My 9th grader was learning about commas and compound sentences....same as 3rd grade brother. Discipline....none.Kids run wild. During homecoming week they were allowed to pour veg oil over balcony on other students and throw eggs during pep rally. They are allowed to smear pbutter and garbage over each others lockers. I guess you get what you pay for...nothing for nothing. Honors Algebra....a joke. Left 7 messages for principal/administration...still haven't heard back...it's October 9th. No local CPS teachers that teach there send their kids there...guess that is a big red flag. An embarrassment to the neighborhood.

Alderman Matt O'Shea

All of us residing in the 19th Ward are fortunate to have Matt O'Shea as our Alderman. I am not a relative, close friend, or an employee of his. I just happen to live in the 19th Ward, & want to let all of you know that we have a working Alderman. He answers questions, responds to problems, & returns phone calls. He proved to me that all politicians are not crooked. Please spread the word, we need Matt O'Shea!

  • gkc, Could you be more specific? Your post is vague. I'd like some details.

  • I think Matt is just a rubber stamp for mike madigan so is fran Hurley and bill Cunningham
