Locals rally to save Dyett High School

Bennett also spoke about how far away Chicago Vocational Career Academy High School, 2100 E. 87th St., and Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, 3857 W. 111th St., are from Dyett.

In 2012, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) voted to phase out Dyett, 555 E. 51st St., in 2015. The coalition, which is made up of seven organizations from across the city...

Beautification of 111th in Mt Greenwood

So reading the latest Beverly Review I see we (meaning taxpayers) are going to spend almost $2.5 mil (TIF money) to put in sodded parkways--among other things--to beautify 111th, but we don't have the money to fix disintegrating streets. This is like replacing your landscaping when you have a gushing leak in your basement.

Yes it is TIF money, but that has been released for more mundane--or important maintenance--use before.

Besides, who is going to be watering this sod to keep it alive..and weeding it..and keeping it from being trampled to death..and what will the street salt do to it next winter? Who is coming up with these brilliant ideas?

  • I agree. Just look what is being done at 95th street. First they put in this multi million dollar beautification project and the next year it needs to be torn up to put in underground electric. Mean while these city planners face no blame for their poor decisions. Just a huge waste of taxpayer money nobody held accountable

Herbie Johnson Post Office

I read the news story were Lipinski is trying to pass a bill to name Mt Greenwood Post office after Herbie Johnson..Great idea, but why not name the Morgan Park Post office after him, and the Mt Greenwood Post office after John Knight? Both men are worthy of such an honor, and they could each have the Post Offices named after them from their own neighborhoods....
