Freight trains in the area

We are considering a move to the west Beverly area and / or Mount Greenwood.
I noticed there are some tracks along Rockwell and Sacramento that are freight. Curious for the people who live in that little pocket - is there a lot of noise from them? Are they super frequent? We are just curious... trying to find a quiet place to live in the city, I know that's a challenge :)

  • I don't live right on the tracks, so I can't speak to the noise level of having them right outside my door, but they do come at least twice a day. One time always seems to be around 8pm. I live 2 blocks from there and it doesn't really bother me though.

i, like Liz, can't speak for those who live adjacent to the tracks. We live right in the middle of both sets of tracks, West Beverly, I really don't know the frequency of the trains--they are that unobtrusive. We might hear them late at night, but it is that romantic...

i, like Liz, can't speak for those who live adjacent to the tracks. We might hear them late at night, but it is that romantic clickety-clack of the movies.

My only complaint about our location is the inconvenience when driving. Some of the trains are long and slow, sometimes they stop, and sometimes you encounter gate failures. You may find you have to take a tour of the south side to find a place where the crossing is open AND traffic isn't backed up to a ridiculous degree. It doesn't happen often, but it does have the makings of a major headache when it does.

Thanks. If anyone sees anything by owner in the area... please post! There isn't much listed right now... :)

Alderman Matt O'Shea

All of us residing in the 19th Ward are fortunate to have Matt O'Shea as our Alderman. I am not a relative, close friend, or an employee of his. I just happen to live in the 19th Ward, & want to let all of you know that we have a working Alderman. He answers questions, responds to problems, & returns phone calls. He proved to me that all politicians are not crooked. Please spread the word, we need Matt O'Shea!

  • Well he's no better than Ginger Rugai was. If you live in Mt. Greenwood, you might as well forget about anything getting done EXCEPT maybe some small token projects if it's an election year.
Also, if you own a business along west 111th street between Kedzie and Pulaski. Did that flooding problem ever get fixed? You know all the millions spent to have Daley's sons company reline the sewers because the infrastructure was so bad. You guys still flooding worse than before the project was begun?.

  • Still flooding here..I don't even bother to call the insurance company anymore. They ll just drop me...Just keeping every thing off the floor permanently and Lysol it when it recedes....

Am I the only person who keeps their dog on a leash around here?

Another occurrence on top of more than I can count. On my morning dog walk my pet and I were accosted by two dogs with no collar or tags. No owners to be anywhere in sight. I have first hand walked peoples dogs back to their houses numerous times after they have come running after my leashed pet. Is there a reason everyone is so careless? Is there a reason the pet owners look at me like I am the jerk in this situation? My wife refuses to walk the dog with our infant since this has happened to her a few times and balancing the chaos of multiple dogs and a baby is a bit much.

Are humans this day and age simply afraid of everything? Boring!

  • Paul Active resident

I tried posting this before but it must not have gone through. The dogs were what appeared to be a mother and pup pitbull mix in a sandy color. They were nice dogs, but when you look up and see two pits running at you, your heart stops for a moment. Sorry to bore you MaTuRu, but next time you should review your comments to see if they add any value whatsoever.
