Welcome to EveryBlock's special report on "Operation Crooked Code". A federal probe of that name resulted in the arrests of 15 people on bribery charges in May 2008. These people, who included developers, contractors and city inspectors, were involved with exchanging cash and other benefits in return for various Chicago permits and city services, according to U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald.

The investigation was a joint effort of the U.S. Attorney, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the FBI and the Chicago Inspector General's Office.
