Around 2 p.m., July 23, Chicago police found Everett Tate, 30, in a parked car in an alley behind 6008 W. North Ave. He had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead three hours later. Another man, found next to the car suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

CeaseFire -- the high-profile anti-violence program that was hit with a major cut last year in its state funding -- is successful at stopping shootings in Chicago, a Northwestern University study has found.The study focused on shootings in seven areas of Chicago where CeaseFire has operated -- Logan Square, Rogers Park, the Southwest Side, West Garfield Park, West Humboldt Park, Englewood and Auburn-Gresham. According to police reports, on April 17 at 5:40 p.m., Sylvester McIntyre, 29, of the 1700 block of North Austin allegedly entered the FYE store, 26 E. Randolph, and took a compact disc valued at $13.99 from the sales rack. He concealed the CD in the front of his pants and walked past the last point of sale without paying for it. McIntyre was detained by security. Police arrived, arrested him and charged him with retail theft.
