  • 8600 block of south Drexel Lovelorn at Looptopia

    According to police reports, on May 12 at 12:18 p.m., police responded to a theft in progress at the Family Dollar store at 1700 W. 18th. When they arrived at the store, they found Mitzi Lewis, 38, of the 4400 block of west Monroe standing in the lobby holding a maroon handbag. Lewis allegedly placed multiple items in her bag and attempted to leave the store without paying. Officers took Lewis into custody; a search of her bag turned up four bottles of Suave shampoo and eight packages of Crest toothpaste. Officers also saw Carl Brown, 43, of the 8600 block of south Drexel in the alley at 1658 W. 18th. Brown matched the description of the second offender, so police detained him and found a white plastic bag containing five containers of Nivea body cream, three containers of Tag deodorant, four cans of Tag body spray, two boxes of Tylenol, and four boxes of Aleve. Brown was identified by the dollar store manager and was arrested and charged with theft along with Lewis.
