• Grand and Kostner Violent Crimes Task Force Salutes 16th & 25th District Officers

  Officer Gniot monitored the flash message and observed the offenders vehicle in traffic at Grand and Kostner. Assisting units responded and the vehicle and occupants were taken into custody without incident. The occupants were brought back to the bank for a show up and were positively identified by witnesses.

• 4825 North Austin Violent Crimes Task Force Salutes 16th & 25th District Officers

  On Saturday, 16 Feb. 08, LaSalle Bank, 4825 North Austin was robbed by a serial bank robber. The 16th District officers immediately responded to the bank, secured the crime scene, conducted a thorough canvass, and located witnesses. Sgt. Cowin sent a detailed flash message of the wanted vehicle and occupants to the adjoining districts.

• 2416 N. Artesian Hats Off to Area 5 Cold Case

  It was 6 June 2003 when Derrick Tate, 28, was accosted at gun point in a robbery attempt at 2416 N. Artesian.  Two armed offenders were demanding money.  Tate resisted and was shot once in the right arm, T&T into the right side.  Tate was pronounced later that evening at Illinois Masonic.  On 28 March 08, Area 5 Cold Case Detectives M. Mancuso, M. Pawelski, R. Chernikovich and K. McDonald developed information that led to the arrest of two Imperial Gangsters, Alexis Medina, 25 and Antolino Phillips who were charged with Tate's murder.  Both subjects admitted their involvement in the robbery that turned into a murder.

• 7859 S. State St Area 2 Salutes 6th District Officers

  On 25 Nov. 07, officers observed a masked offender holding a handgun in his hand and running from the Shell Gas Station located at 7859 S. State St. and enter a vehicle. After a short vehicle and foot pursuit the offender was located hiding in a storage shed. At which time Officer Johnson (with service weapon drawn) announced his office and then ordered the offender to come out of the shed. The offender lunged at the officer and attempted to disarm him. Assisting officers came to the officers aid and placed the subject into custody. It was later determined the offender had just committed an Armed Robbery of the Shell Gas Station and was recently paroled from prison for murder.
