By: Margaret Littman Sept. 05, 2008

LEARN. The Chicago Architecture Foundation tours have always pointed out great historical buildings. This weekend one tour will point out great historical women, too. The two-hour WOMEN OF INFLUENCE tour will introduce you to the stories of Mary Jane Richardson Jones, an African-American pioneer in civil rights, and others who helped make the city what it is today. The tour starts at the Graceland Cemetery visitors' center. Sept. 6, 10 a.m. Tours are $10, free for CAF members, cash only on-site. 4001 N. Clark St., 312-922-3432, www.architecture.org.

GAWK. Get ideas for your own abode or just look in awe at 20 custom-built homes valued between $1 million and $4.95 million during the CHICAGO LUXURY HOME TOUR. Pick up a tour map and a ticket that lets you in to all 20 houses and gape away. Houses are in several suburbs, including Clarendon Hills, Glenview and Naperville. Sept. 5 – Sept. 7, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, or $5 for single-home tours. 866-895-8912, www.chicagohometour.com.

VIEW. FRESH INITIATIVE, an exhibit opening at Mars Gallery, showcases new works by artists Eric Skaggs and Michael Hedges. Go see the show at the West Loop gallery and help support the Red Door Shelter, a local no-kill animal shelter. Sept. 5, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Free, proceeds from a cash martini bar benefit Red Door. 1139 W. Fulton Mkt., 312-226-7808, www.marsgallery.com.

EXPERIENCE. Audiences move through the theater as if they were in an art gallery, watching and interacting with performers in THE JENKINS FARM PROJECT. The multi-media dance and theater show by Beserra Dance Theater tells real stories of a North Carolina farming family along with a bluegrass-blues-hymn-folk-inspired score. Sept. 5 – Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m., Sept. 7, 2 p.m. Tickets are $30. 1225 W. Belmont Ave., 773-327-5252, www.beserradancetheater.org or www.ticketmaster.com.

RACE. Lace up your sneakers and run (or walk) 5K during the ANN LANDERS RACE FOR RESEARCH. The event raises awareness of myeloma, the blood cancer from which the columnist died in 2002. Sept. 7, 9 a.m. Registration is $25 in advance, $30 on race day, proceeds benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. 2300 N. Cannon Dr., 773-868-3010, www.mmrfrace.org/chicago.

LISTEN. The famous rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri comes to the stage when AMADEUS opens at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Hear the music and see the passions of 18th-century Vienna. Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 7, 3 p.m. Tickets are $44 – $70. 800 E. Grand Ave., 312-595-5600, www.chicagoshakes.com.

WALK. Take your morning stroll with different scenery in the background during A WALK IN THE PARK. PONDER. The National Museum of Mexican Art's A DECLARATION OF IMMIGRATION exhibit closes this weekend. The show kicks off the museum's plan to host immigrant-themed programming over the next three years, so there will be more on the theme. But, take advantage of your last chance to see these works of 70 artists and their thoughts on immigration. Sept. 5 - Sept. 7, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free. 1852 W. 19th St., 312-738-1503, www.nationalmuseumofmexicanart.org.
