  • More bites, more benders: This week’s eating and drinking events

Posted in Restaurants and bars by Julia Kramer on September 30th, 2008

    TUESDAY 30
Wildfire hosts a BearBoat Winery dinner, featuring classics like beef wellington paired with syrah and strawberry shortcake accompanied by champagne. 6:30–9pm. 159 W Erie St (773-398-6960). $80.

    WEDNESDAY 1
Support Breast Cancer Awareness month with a bag of Poppin’ Pink Kettlecorn from Nuts on Clark. A portion of the proceeds of the pink chocolate–coated popcorn will benefit the Network of Strength of Illinois (formerly Y-Me). Through October 31. Water Tower Place Main Floor, 835 N Michigan Ave (773-549-6622). $10.

Marigold’s now offering their Taste of India menu on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights for the month of October. The menu features three traditional Punjabi dishes: ground lamb dumplings braised in tomato broth; stir-fried baby Indian eggplant; and murgh saagwala, chicken slow-cooked in fresh spinach and tomato. Through October 31. 4832 N Broadway St (773-293-4653). $25.

    THURSDAY 2
If last weekend’s Chicago Gourmet got you itching for more opportunities to drink copious amounts of alcohol while schmoozing, head to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s 15th Annual Single Malt and Scotch Whisky Extravaganza to taste 60 varieties of Scotch from off-the-beaten-track producers. Reservations and “business attire” required. 6:30pm–9pm. Union League Club of Chicago, 65 W Jackson Blvd (800-990-1991). $115 Society members, $130 non-members.

Taste 30 wines from Bordeaux, including big names like Mouton Rothschild, at the Grand Cru Tasting at Binny’s. 5:30pm–8pm. 214 W Grand Ave (312-332-0012). $30.

The Cubs and good wine go together like….Hmm, I’m drawing a blank here. Give the pairing a shot anyway at Mrs. Murphy and Sons Irish Bistro’s Cubs game wine tasting with Christophe Baukus from Local Wine Company. 7–9pm. 3905 N Lincoln Ave (773-248-3905). $15, $20 at the door.

    FRIDAY 3
You’re pairing Manchego with what? Wine-and-cheese pairings go from boring to “barely legal” at Wine Goddess Presents: Wine and Cheese Uncensored! at the Chopping Block Cooking School. 6–7:30pm. 222 Merchandise Mart, Suite 107 (312-644-6360). $60.

    SATURDAY 4
Turn your kiddies into foodies at a Family Cooking Class at the Alliance Française de Chicago, where they’ll teach traditional French recipes geared toward kids ages 7–10. 2–4pm. 810 N Dearborn St (312-337-1070). $45 parent, $30 one child, $55 two siblings.

    SUNDAY 5
Get on board the Soul Train (that’s the Metra, by the way) for a three-course dinner at Soul Restaurant in Clarendon Hills. Don’t expect to spend the ride reading the Wall Street Journal, though: citrus-cured salmon and chicken-liver mousse hors d’oeuvres will be passed around the train car, along with wines. RSVP to Megan at mgeosano@gmail.com. 6:30–10pm. Union Station and 1 Walker Ave, Clarendon Hills (630-920-1999). $75 including transportation, $65 without transportation.
