Police Fatally Shoot Man on South Side
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Chicago Police fatally shot a knife-wielding man Saturday night in the South Side's Marquette Park neighborhood.
Police responded about 7:15 p.m. to a requested well being check in the 7700 block of South Kedzie Avenue and discovered a man with a knife attempting to stab the person who called 911. The incident appeared to be domestic-related, police said.
Police ordered the man to stop and shot him when he refused, police said.
Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Mark Payne said the man was killed. The man was identified as Eugene Miller, 47, of 7735 S. Kedzie Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:37 p.m.
The woman who called police was not injured, neither were any officers, authorities said. Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado confirmed nobody was hospitalized.
Payne said a knife was recovered on the scene.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating and was interviewing witnesses Saturday night, Payne said.
