Garrett Popcorn Cashier Gets 7 Years For ID Theft
SKOKIE, Ill. (STNG) ―
A 22-year-old man was convicted Friday of identity theft for trying to "skim" a credit card number from a customer while working as a cashier at Garrett Popcorn on the Magnificent Mile in January.
Cook County Judge Sharon Sullivan sentenced Julian Sherman of the 6500 block of South Kenwood to seven years in prison, according to Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
Sherman was working as a cashier at Garrett Popcorn, 670 N. Michigan Ave., when he allegedly took out a "skimming device" while processing a purchase for a customer, police said.
The customer noticed and called police, who said they caught Sherman in possession of the device, which records credit card numbers.
