News article details
A robbery occurred at Chernin's Shoes, 1601 W. Chicago, at 6:38 p.m. on June 21, police reports say. According to store employees, the incident began when two men in their late twenties entered the store, pretending to be interested in buying some merchandise. One of the men approached the counter with some shoes, handing a note to the clerk behind the counter, the report says. "This is a robbery," the note read, and the offender pointed to the snub of a small semi-automatic handgun he held in his hand. The second offender moved behind the counter and took the cash from the register, making off with about $100. Both men then fled the store on foot. After talking to a parking attendant at a nearby restaurant, police believe the men made their getaway in a white Pontiac Grand Am. At the time of the report, no arrests had been made.
