Teen Shot During Gunfight Outside South Side Party
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
A 17-year-old was shot and killed late Friday night after he and a group of others got into a gunfight outside a party on the South Side in the Roseland neighborhood.
The teen, identified as Shaun Brown by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, was attending an "out-of-control" party at the Keep Poppin Smoothie and Popcorn Shop, 11138 S. Halsted St., when an argument ensued, causing dozens of partygoers to spill out into the shop's parking lot where the quarrel continued, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.
The victim ran across Halsted Street and was chased by several others at which time an exchange of gunfire occurred and the boy identified by the medical examiner's office as Brown was shot in the chest and collapsed at 733 W. 112th St., Kubiak said.
Brown, of 11157 S. Union Ave. was pronounced dead at Roseland Community Hospital at 12:50 a.m., the medical examiner's office said.
No one else was injured.
The victim's weapon was recovered on the scene and Calumet Area detectives are investigating. No one is in custody early Saturday.
