  • 626 W. Jackson Live Nation has eyes on Uptown

    CHA SALE: Closing a deal with the Chicago Housing Authority, Sterling Bay Cos. and longtime office property representative Menahem Deitcher have purchased the office building at 626 W. Jackson for $7.7 million. The former CHA headquarters will be refurbished for office tenants. The eight-story building encompasses nearly 108,000 square feet.

    Deitcher worked for CB Richard Ellis Inc. before going out on his own a year ago, forming the Deitcher Group. He moved into the building at 853 N. Elston that used to be owned by Antoin "Tony" Rezko, the indicted developer and political fund-raiser. Rezko sold the building as his company, Rezmar Corp., imploded.

Michigan, an area getting heavy attention these days because of the McCormick Place expansion. Norberg will convert the first floor to a restaurant and the second and third floors to offices, said Paine/Wetzel Oncor International, which represented the seller, John Clarkson. ... WEG Electric Motors leased 79,000 square feet at Duke Realty Corp.'s 635 Northwest Ave., Northlake.

    • A grocery store was robbed by a man with a knife about 5 p.m. Dec. 28 on the 3300 block of North Pulaski Road. A cashier at the store told police a man with a knife entered and stole $1,200 from the cash register and ran away. Police said they have security footage of the crime.

    • Bank auditors were still tallying up the loss late last week following a Dec. 28, holdup at Citibank, 3128 N. Ashland, police said. According to police reports, a gunman in his late 20s entered the bank around 2:25 p.m. and ordered three employees to take him to the vault and help him put the money in a canvas bag.

    When a customer walked in, the gunman ordered him to jump over the counter and join the bank employees on the floor while he made his getaway, said police. Officers said a police dog tracked the robber to the alley behind the 3000 block of North Ashland, but lost the suspect, who witnesses said was wearing a fake afro wig, sunglasses, a trenchcoat and plastic gloves.

    • A 15-year-old male was robbed of an iPod and a wallet on the 3500 block of North Oakley at 9:30 p.m. Dec. 30, police said. Police said the victim and a friend were stopped by two older youths in their late teens who took the victim's backpack, then ran east on Cornelia before turning into an alley.

    • A man in his 40s was hit in the head with a bottle when he saw a woman in a wheelchair being harassed on the 800 block of West Wilson Avenue 5 p.m. Dec. 31, and tried to intervene. After hitting the victim, the attacker, who appeared to be in his late 30s, told the victim to mind his own business in the future, then walked away, police said.

    • Thieves got some jewelry, a laptop computer, and a camera during a burglary on the 3800 block of North Kenmore sometime between Dec. 20, and 4:45 p.m. Dec. 28, police said. Police said the victim came home to find his back door open and the apartment ransacked. Officers believe the burglars got in through a side basement door.
