For 30 years, Zanies has stood at the corner of North and Wells, mere feet from the Second City. It’s frankly a miracle they’re still around—the boom of the 1980s came and went, rendering just about every other stand-up comedy club bankrupt. In gearing up for the actual anniversary on November 30 (how fitting), the club will be launching a series of special shows, the first of which kicks off tonight.
Local Patti Vasquez headlines, with help from Bill Cruz as the MC and Nick Vatterott, a TOC fave, performing the feature set. The best part, though, may be the cost—30 years ago, tickets were a paltry two bucks, and Zanies is charging that tonight. Show’s at 8:30; theater’s at 1548 N Wells. Time to break out that two dollar bill your grandma gave you as a Hanukkah gag gift. It’s no gag gift anymore.
