    One of the biggest turnarounds in the club scene of the last couple years was Spy Bar (646 N Franklin St), which has been in the same River North space since 1996. The venue regained cool credibility with bookings of very big names in house and techno including Misstress Barbara, Oscar G and Laurent Garnier but maintained its intimate one-of-the-gang vibe. DJs that don’t even play there tells me it’s one of their faves–especially on Thursdays.

    The sign is up and the neon is just as blingy as the one just east and across the street at Five Star, but Natalino’s still has a few final touches to add before opening for business. The man behind the soon-to-open West Town Italian restaurant is Michael Genovise, who also runs Piano Piano in Park Ridge, and he says that the name is a combination of family members’ names Nate and Lino, both of whom passed away.

    Firefighters responded to a blaze at two-story, frame house at 5308 S. Damen Ave. just after 7 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the basement and first floor, and elevated the blaze to a still-and-box alarm at 7:08 a.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.

    Documents on file with the state list Barbara as Kankakee Regional's manager as far back as May 31, 2006. The company's address is given as 2300 S. Archer Ave., the address of other Barbara businesses. At a hearing held last June, an official from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency identified Barbara as one of three partners in the landfill.
