  • 2400 block of W. Superior Robber stalks Superior

Jimmie Tolbert, 34, of the 2400 block of W. Superior, was arrested on charges of assault after an incident occurred on the 600 block of N. Wood at 10:37 p.m. Jan. 8, police reports say. Officers were patrolling their normal beat when they allegedly saw Tolbert pushing a 29-year-old woman, an accountant, against an iron fence. Leaving their car, the officers approached and soon saw that Tolbert was holding a knife in his hand, the report says. On seeing the police approach, Tolbert threw the knife to the side and pulled a screwdriver from his pocket, tossing it to the ground as well, according to the report. The officers arrested Tolbert and tried to interview his victim, but soon found her unconscious. Officers noticed a fresh bump on the top of her head and quickly called an ambulance. Back in the 13th District office, the police questioned Tolbert. First, they asked him where he'd gotten a blue bag they'd found in his possession while arresting him. It held a Sony laptop and several electrical parts. Tolbert informed the police he'd found the bag on the street. When asked if he'd made an attempt to contact the bag's owner, Tolbert allegedly replied succinctly: "Hell no!" Police later contacted the victim, who told them she'd never met the offender and remembered little prior to being knocked on the head.

Jorge Lopez, 19, of the 2000 block of W. Chicago, and Joseph Jackson, 18, of the 2300 block of W. Iowa, were arrested on charges of robbery on Jan. 10. The arrest came after at least two attempted robberies involving fraudulent Craigslist postings in which one of the men allegedly posed as a character named "Jimmy Hendrix," offering large flat-screen televisions at affordable prices, police reports say. On Jan. 8, a taxi driver told police that he'd responded to a Craigslist ad posted by a man claiming to be "Jimmy Hendrix" and arranged to buy a television from him by meeting at an address on the 2300 block of W. Superior, the report says. When the taxi driver arrived, however, "Jimmy" asked him to come into an alleyway behind the building. A second man soon emerged, shoving the driver into the alley. The driver evaded the robbery attempt quickly, sprinting away as the offenders allegedly fired a shot in his direction, the report says. When police investigating the crime found that the original Craigslist ad was still online, an undercover officer contacted "Jimmy," and offered to buy his television for $800 and arranged to meet him at 7 p.m. on Jan. 10. This time, however, "Jimmy" suggested they meet at a different address, on the 2200 block of W. Thomas. When the officer arrived, "Jimmy," who turned out to be Lopez, told him to come around to the home's back porch. He waved the officer around to a gangway leading out back, where Jackson was waiting, no T.V. to be found. After coming around, the officer made his arrest, placing both Lopez and Jackson under arrest. Neither men, it was found, lived at the address.
