This is so great! People are hoping for things to happen in our neighborhood. This is one of those things. Everyone PLEASE go so they will continue to have food trucks. And BTW people that run food trucks at somepoint open restaurants. They might consider our areas if they see a response.
Cool! Great idea.
This is going to be a great event, I am really excited about it!
I hit a lot of the food trucks since I work downtown and these two are my ABSOLUTE FAVES, so am thrilled that they are coming to my 'hood! YUM! I'll be there!
here's the empanada's website. looks GREAT for next Thursday.

gramps and I are going.
I was SOOOOOO looking forward to this. I took the 91 bus there, went into Fischman's to try the new tap selections, and by the time I had 2 beers, both food trucks were completely out of food and on their way. This was no later than 6:40; the event started at 6 p.m.
I am beyond disappointed. I very much appreciated Ald. Arena being there to welome people and support this kind of food service (even though I am in 38 and met a bunch of "neighbors" there). The empanada truck gave out coupons for a freebie the next time around and we were told that they may be out this way every other Thursday. From what I overheard both trucks were stunned from the crowd in this neighborhood and simply did not bring enough food.
I'd like to make a comment that the demographics of these NW side neighborhoods are changing. There was a big line of people (young, old, families with kids) that were turned away. I made this same comment at a neighborhood forum at Wright College about 5 years ago and was blasted for it in print and in public.
To those who have the power to make these events a reality: we're here and willing to partake. I'm bummed I made the effort and still missed out.
The event was a hit! The turn out was MUCH larger then anticipated. They went based off how many people RSVPd on their FB Event page on how much food should be brought (we wouldnt want the business to waste food if the turn out was lower then expected).
Not only did people show up that RSVPd, but plenty of people just casually walking along the street decided to hop in line for food. Even more so because the Alderman fronted the bill.
And yes, Fischmans is planning on making this a BI-Weekly event to try and bring neighbors together!
