Starbucks Coming to Jeff Park

After years of soliciting Starbucks to enter the robust markets of the 45th Ward, it is with great pleasure that I announce their plans to open a new Jefferson Park location in the former Brown’s Chicken building located at 5601 W. Lawrence.

Culver’s Breaks Ground

On Thursday, July 6, Culver’s broke ground for their first Chicago location at 4939 W. Irving Park Road. With construction underway – the butter burger serving, frozen custard outlet plans to open their doors in November of this year.

Binny’s Beverage Depot, 4901 W. Irving Park Road, has been busy at work stocking their shelves with a wide selection of quality liquor ahead of their July 21 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Elly’s Pancake House, 4925 W. Irving Park Road, has finished the demolition and in the process of acquiring their permits. Elly’s anticipates finishing the build-out and opening their doors by October of this year.

Pulaski Peoples Gas Project

Culver’s break ground July 6

Culver’s broke ground this spring on a location in Bronzeville, lining up the first Chicago outpost for the Wisconsin-based chain. The Portage Park restaurant, 4939 W. Irving Park Road, is set to open soon after, with a third promised for Wrigleyville.

Cui also scored a permit to renovate the storefront at 4925 W. Irving Park Road, where an Elly’s Pancake House is being planned.

I have exciting news for the Jefferson Park neighborhood! I am pleased to welcome Weston’s Coffee & Tap Co., 4872 N. Milwaukee, to the neighborhood. The business recently obtained permits and is working on interior renovations ahead of their mid-August opening.

While you’re at the market, keep an eye out for Good City Group. They will be asking market-goers to help map the locations of three (or more) benches. This is a community-driven initiative with the generous support of Gale Street Inn, 4914 N. Milwaukee.

The community is invited to attend a public meeting to provide input on the design of new public artwork at the Addison and Irving Park Blue Line stations on Monday, June 12, from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Independence Park Field House, 3945 N. Springfield Avenue.

There will be a community open house to discuss a CDOT plan to install two additional red-light cameras in the 45th Ward. It will take place on Wednesday, June 14, at 6:30 PM at the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence.

The Irving Park Community Food Pantry has begun work on their herb garden for the new season. The garden -just outside the pantry’s door at 3801 N. Keeler – grows basil, chives, cilantro, mind, orgeano, parsley, rosemanry, and thyme.

Beard School, 6445 W. Strong, is participating in a community paper recycling fundraising program. For every ton of paper collected, Beard School will receive additional funding.

Looking for a family-friendly activity to do this weekend? The Patio Theater, 6008 W. Irving Park, will present a showing of Minions at 3 PM and 6 PM on Sunday, June 4.
