New School In Dunning OK'd By CPS Board; Ebinger, Prussing To Get Annexes

The school is slated to open at the intersection of Irving Park Road and Oak Park Avenue in time for the 2019-20 school year.

Taft principal Mark Grishaber has lobbied hard in support of the alderman's proposal for a "Taft South," arguing that it could be the only way to relieve the school's overcrowding without stripping the resources that have helped Taft, 6530 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., climb to level 1 status.

At the same time, students and teachers at Steinmetz College Prep High School, 3030 N. Mobile Ave., have questioned why the $75 million school is being built at all, when the neighboring Steinmetz is hemorrhaging enrollment and enduring bone-deep budget cuts.

Also on Wednesday, the board passed a resolution calling for the commission to start designing annexes for Prussing Elementary School, 4650 N. Menard Ave., and Ebinger Elementary School, 7350 W. Pratt Ave., both announced earlier this year.

Also on Wednesday, the board passed a resolution calling for the commission to start designing annexes for Prussing Elementary School, 4650 N. Menard Ave., and Ebinger Elementary School, 7350 W. Pratt Ave., both announced earlier this year.

Ald. Anthony Napolitano (41st) personally thanked the board for its vote to build on Ebinger Wednesday, but he vowed to "keep the quest going" to get a similar addition for Dirksen Elementary School, 8601 W. Foster Ave., now operating around 160 percent capacity.

New School In Dunning OK'd By CPS Board; Ebinger, Prussing To Get Annexes
DOWNTOWN - The Chicago Public Schools Board of Education voted Wednesday to kick-start the design process for a "middle school project" in the Read-Dunning area, whose enrollment and attendance boundaries have yet to be decided. The city's Public Building Commission unveiled its intention to build the school, which would hold about 1,300 students, at a Jan.

  • This is why Chicago's population is declining, tax-payers are tired of the corruption and leaving. $75 million wasted on building a school because 900 kids who live near Steinmetz refuse to attend that school, so they overcrowd Taft. And, if CPS still wants a new school, why not purchase the soon-to-be-vacant Luther North High School, which is closing down end of this school year?

  • They are borrowing the $75 million! Crazy.

LNHS is owned by or will soon be owned by New Life Church. So CPS probably can't buy it right now as it's not for sale.

LAKEVIEW — It is physically impossible to not know who's moved into 3201 N. Ashland Ave.

In the case of the lady featured in this article, the really unfortunate part is that she might be forced out of her house after 19 years. A better option would be for the city (state?) to offer assistance in cases like this one, and to use their clout to force the bank back to the negotiating table so that this lady (and others in a similar situation) are not forced out of their homes. In the long run this would be the best outcome for everyone.

@Gabriel - the current product of public schools is why parents sacrifice to pay for private or charter schools - they want to offer their child an better opportunity to graduate with the knowledge and language skills needed to land at least a middle income job and begin a career - good parents want more for their children then they experienced. As a person who interviewed and hired many individuals I was amazed at the lack of communication skills of public school children - often i couldn't understand their English. The good news is they helped me to scale down the candidates.
