    Read full comment…

This bears repeating: contrary to popular (troll) opinion, there is no more crime NOH than anywhere else in Rogers Park. Yes, there is a little more criminal activity in the areas immediately adjacent to Howard station, but that situation is not much different from the crime around Morse station and many other red line stations all the way down the lake shore. There is perhaps a little more crime at Howard than at some other stations, but Howard station is a big place; it is a terminus point for the red, purple and yellow lines; and it includes a busy bus depot. More transit passengers naturally (statistically) translates to higher crime levels around Howard station, which means crime incidents per passenger are certainly no greater than at other stations.

Because of transit-related crime near Howard station, the entire NOH area gets branded as being a crime hot spot. But if you follow the monthly crime maps, you'll quickly get a sense of the real picture. http://crime.chicagotribune.com/chicago/community/rogers-park

Other micro neighborhoods in Rogers Park with higher crime levels than NOH never get villified like NOH does.

What's really behind the myth of NOH being a next of crime is racism, plain and simple. NOH has the highest black population in the ward, and unfortunately some folks are quick to associate predominantly black neighborhoods with crime. It's certainly the case that blacks (and Latinos) constitute the majority of gang members in our city (no argument there), but gang shootings in RP can and do happen all over the ward and elsewhere; gangsters aren't shooting each other up NOH any more than anywhere else.

  • In Chinatown there was a Ramen Master wprking for a while, its a skill the way he flipped, pulled and stretched out the ramen noodles.

The man had serious skills, unfortunately he also had a serious gambling problem and ain't there more.

  • Jeff, those were Beijing-style Chinese hand pulled noodles, la mian, that are almost the same as but not exactly the same as ramen noodles which are Japanese. To be honest I can't taste the difference between them once they are in hot broth.

Zenith Company Began As Literal Radio Shack Next To Edgewater Beach Hotel

After only two years, Chicago Radio Lab had outgrown its lakefront garage and moved west to a 3,000-square-foot factory and office building at 6433 N. Ravenswood Ave., which remains today as the Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center.

This article has 3 other Chicago locations (Show)

The pair of friends were former Navy men stationed at Lakes Naval Training Station who, after World War I, formed the Chicago Radio Laboratory out of Matthews' Uptown apartment kitchen at 1316 W. Carmen Ave.

Later that year, Chicago Radio Lab expanded into a small shack at 5525 N. Sheridan Road, property owned by the glamorous up-and-coming hotel.

Some of its creations are now on display from 1-4 p.m. weekends at the Edgewater Historical Society, 5358 N. Ashland Ave., until April.

Zenith Company Began As Literal Radio Shack Next To Edgewater Beach Hotel
EDGEWATER - Before Steve Jobs made working out of your garage cool, Ralph H.G. Matthews and Karl Hassel had already made history by helping to transmit the first transcontinental radio message out of a two-car garage on the grounds of the former Edgewater Beach Hotel.

@Pedro Garciano - I thought you were off having a beer and reliving the only high point in the current presidency?

You pretty much accuse me of being a Moore partisan when that is not even close to true. Fact is I am neutral about Moore. I would not mind seeing a new candidate take him on...it would be good for everyone to have another set of opinions.

The problem is, there are a few who are quick to jump on Moore with some wildly unfounded accusations and conclusions. As Daniel Patrick Moynihan once said, "You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.”

You, my friend, want to peddle your own facts which makes me wonder for whom you are shilling!
