About 11 p.m., the three were sitting in a parked vehicle in the 6700 block of South Parnell Avenue when another vehicle pulled up alongside and someone inside opened fire, according to police News Affairs Officer David Banks.

Andre Smith, 31, of the 540 block of West 69th Street, was shot on the 6700 block of South Parnell Avenue and pronounced dead at 11:40 p.m. at St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The 18-acre campus at South Wentworth Avenue and West Marquette Road in Englewood closed down in 2007 when the new one opened about a mile to the northwest.

The fire occurred about 10 a.m. at Englewood High School, 6201 S. Stewart Ave. The building is home to two schools, Urban Prep and Team Englewood, according to Chicago Public Schools spokesman Malon Edwards.
