The Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club proudly presents its inaugural “Step Together: A Community Fun Walk” to take place on Sunday, September 14, 2014 (9am-12pm) to celebrate the beginning of a new school year.

The Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club has been an integral part of this community for over 80 years. We provide after school services to over 1,200 children a year. Our goal for this event is to unite the entire community, students & parents, promote community development, education, and bring the entire neighborhood together to support our schools, our students, and our community.

Students, parents, friends, families, and faculty from local schools and community organizations are encouraged to join us for the NBGC’s Back-to School Walk and Fair. The 3K community stroll begins at Revere Park/NBGC Fields, and continues through Horner Park and ends back at NBGC (the destination of our fun fair with refreshments and entertainment). All entrants receive a water and bananas and the first 300 to sign up receive a commemorative event t-shirt.

Why Walk?
-Spend a beautiful morning with your family and neighbors
-Get to know the people in your community and neighborhood schools

Helicopter spinning around Belmont and Springfield

Does anyone living by Springfield and Belmont hear the police helicopter going around in circles - anyone know why?

  • I saw fire trucks and an ambulance in that area, but no police cars not sure what was going on.

Methadone clinic Belmont/Oakley

I was just informed that there is a methadone clinic that will be opening up at Belmont and Oakley. Not sure what everyone's thoughts on this are but in my opinion it is horrible for the neighborhood. We will see a huge spike In crime as a result.

The doctor's family owns the building. That's why she is using that location.

I have been working very closely with local law enforcement in the downtown area and have had the unfortunate privilege of solving the community problem at 10 E Chicago Ave(McDonalds). All of the problems at this McDonalds stems from the methadone clinic at 300 W Chicago Ave. I am not disputing that there maybe evidence of methadone assisting in a small percentage of successful recoveries but all too often this treatment is abused. And I can tell you first hand that I witness the abuse to where it has brought plight on the surrounding area. 'Patients' travel from all over the city for this particular clinic. The line forms as early as 6 am and the 'patients' linger in the area until well into the afternoon. Throughout the day the 'patients' relocate from the clinic to 10 E Chicago where they have established an open air drug market. Selling everything from their excess methadone to prescription pills and narcotics. The CPD and DEA conducted an undercover buy/bust operation that concluded last September. The operation netted 13+ arrests for federal felony narcotic sales charges. An undercover officer said the drug dealers were so bold that they were selling right behind a uniformed police officer in the middle of the day. Unfortunately, this operation has not made a long lasting solution to the drug sales and loitering problem for this area. The drug dealers were replaced within days and the undesirable situation still exists. Seeing the effects of a methadone clinic first hand has really questioned if the effectiveness of this legalized high really out weighs the strain and problems and it puts on the surrounding community. If the methadone clinic goes up in RV, at the minimum expect residents from all over Chicago loitering and pacing in your neighborhood. Soon preceding will be a spike in property crimes. Make sure you keep your possession and doors locked and consider installing an alarm. Best of luck RV. Hopefully, you can stop it before the problems begin.

Missing Dark Brown/Black & White Cat

My cat, Louis, went missing 2 weeks ago. Male, approx. 6 years old.

He's very dark brown (almost black) with white underside and paws. He has a little white above his nose and subtle stripes on his side.

I'm offering a reward. Please call if you see him or have him. He is greatly missed.
