@Gary: This wouldn't cause anything like the kind of traffic changes that parades and special events that require full or partial street closures cause.

As far as special treatment idea...the history behind this and many of the other neighborhood greenways is that they were initiated by a neighborhood group or the alderman (often a combination). And the alderman often pays for a large portion of the cost of these infrastructure changes*. So, I think they're *not* special treatment.

    * Because of this payment structure, the Chicago Department of Transportation tends to prefer working with aldermen that are willing to spend a portion of their "menu money". This system isn't equitable, but I don't think it's special treatment.

75 CPS schools now have tested positive for lead
Chicago Public Schools has 75 elementary schools with amounts of lead in their drinking water that have tested above federally acceptable standards. That's about 18 percent so far of the 422 grade schools run by the city's school system. CPS released the updated numbers after 8 p.m.
    http://chicago.suntimes.com

  • James, inside piping, unlike the service line from the water main, is not lead. Duh back. As far as filters go, not all will remove lead so you have carefully read the label. Double Duh.

  • Does anyone know what is planned for the 3 Brothers/Reyna De Palenque building or the lot next to Doggie Dojo? The Whistler is a perfectly fine establishment and I'm sure the developers will do a decent job with the space. I just really hope Avondale doesn't become glutted with bars like Logan Square has. How much bar culture is needed?

  • I heard the 3 Bros/Reyna lots will be apartment/condo buildings with storefronts. A demo permit was issued for the 3 Bros lot last week.
