Was this a dog park a few weeks ago? Seems like the gates/doors were taken away. Anyone know if they will put them back or not?

The alderman took them off unilaterally after people complained about dog poop in the park. A homeless man has been sleeping there since. Please feel free to call Alderman Ervin and let him know you'd like the gates back - it is best for the security of all! (773) 533-0900

This was NEVER a city-ordained "dog park." Furthermore, the "homeless" folks have been camping out there for YEARS off and on, and due more likely to the water and portable toilet available at the ball field. Dog poop was not the only issue encountered there- Dogs off leash was the main offense (which is illegal throughout Chicago unless you are in an ordained dog park.) On many occasions I've seen dogs gated in there while folks abandoned them to play ball in the fields- aggressive dogs off leash- folks sitting on benches absorbed by their cell phones and paying no heed to their dogs doing their business.... wherever. Sad :-( that a few negligent owners have to treat a gated space in this way. We were over there the other weekend and families have now started to come there with their young kids and PLAY! Some bring their dogs and keep them on leash. Some kids had their bikes that they rode around and around the sidewalk circle because the gates were gone! There is always 2 sides to the coin. Lastly, as a big dog owner for the last 20 years living here.....I walk my dog, clean up his poop and enjoy traversing the neighborhood in our dog walk loops, and as far as "safety" goes, we can keep a much broader eye on the neighborhood if we walk around.
