While the new archbishop plans to use the red-brick three-story home at 1555 N. State Parkway to host church functions and guests in the coming year, the archdiocese said Cupich will establish a committee to study how the property can best serve the mission of the archdiocese.

Shooting on Ald. Smith's Lincoln Park Block Has Neighbors Frustrated

Residents of the 1600 block of North Vine Street, where the shooting occurred, said the street was plagued by drug-dealing and feuds for months this summer.

Teachers union selling Gold Coast apartment tower

A venture led by Mr. Buford has agreed to buy the 29-story building at 55 W. Chestnut St., a fixer-upper in a prime location, according to people familiar with the transaction. An exact price could not be determined, but it's estimated to be worth slightly less than $50 million, or $233,000 a unit.

The teachers union built the high-rise in 1966 as a place for retired teachers to live, naming it John M. Fewkes Tower in honor of the union's founding president. Chicago architect Harry Weese designed the brick building at the southwest corner of Chestnut and Dearborn streets.
