Plans for restaurant/live entertainment meet with opposition

So many Near West Side residents reacted with dismay to a proposal to open an upscale restaurant with live music at 626 S. Racine Ave. that Ald. Jason Ervin (28th) asked the planners to re-work their proposal to make it acceptable.

Cops issue alert about robberies, burglaries on Near West Side

The other cluster was near Ashland Avenue and Madison Street in the same neighborhood: the 0-100 block of South Laflin Street on the 21st during the day, the 1500 block of West Monroe Street between the 21st and 23rd, and the 0-100 block of South Laflin Street on the 24th during the morning.

In the first, police noted robberies in the 1500 block of West 18th Street in Pilsen about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 21. The second happened two days later about 11:15 a.m., on the 23rd. That happened in the 2000 block of South Hoyne Street in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood.

Boy's missing bionic arm, thought to have been stolen, found

Subway manager Jamie Gordon said a staffer who was cleaning a bench in the corner of the restaurant found the arm more than a week ago. A Chicago police officer picked it up from the eatery, 1252 S. Halsted St.,  at about 8 a.m. Thursday.

West Loop concerned about losing Carmichael green space

A developer bought the 67-year-old building housing Carmichael’s Steakhouse, 1052 W. Monroe St., and adjacent green space in March. The steakhouse has been open since 1997.

The proposal to open an upscale restaurant with live entertainment at 626 S. Racine Ave. is dismaying. Although the space has hosted restaurants before, like much of the Near West Side community that area now is residential.

Another development with which we are concerned is the proposal for two apartment buildings at the site of Carmichael’s Chicago Steak House at 1052 W. Monroe Street.
