Big Star Dropped Its Cash-Only Policy, But Many City Spots Are Holding Out
CHICAGO - Big Star might have ditched its cash-only policy, but the city still has a lot of holdouts. The restaurant made the big switch and started accepting credit cards because guests wanted the change, technology has advanced and Big Star needed to move forward with the neighborhood, said Kim Lyons, a spokeswoman for Big Star.

  • Uptown Arts Council Director-Artist: Jeffrey Littleton

Its mostly long-time establishments that just like doing things the same way its always been.

  • Credit card companies take a cut off of businesses who accept card payment.
Ringing cards takes longer than ringing cash.
It is much easier to defraud a business with a credit card than with cash.
Businesses who install ATMs often do not get a cut-- usually when an ATM owner places their machine in a business, they take the entire withdraw fee (and your bank takes their cut.) Most businesses get nothing from those transactions; they install ATMs as a convenience for their customers.

  • ATID, understand if he gets convicted, karma will find him regularly in prison. And even by some miracle he doesn't, his life is ruined. Justice wins either way.

MOO, I lived in the West loop for years and heard that same exact story dozens of times from women. Amazing he walked around free and on two legs for so long.

What Chicago chefs and bartenders are buying at farmers markets this season
Fruits and veggies (and perhaps a Nutella-stuffed crepe) are obvious choices at the farmers market, but if you're leaving without a stash of fresh herbs, you're really missing out. From basil to epazote, homegrown herbs can add a punch of flavor to whatever's on this week's menu.

Bacon tastes good except it's very expensive. It's costs are incredible cruelty that one of the more intelligent mammals on the planet endures, health care costs due to lousy diet, the immense amount of global environmental destruction from habitat damage for corporate farming which is dependent on mono-culture animal food crops such as corn and soybeans which are treated with vast quantities of the pesticides, herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, which are decimating honey bees and an enormous carbon foot-print to plant, harvest, transport all of the feed and animals. Enjoy the bacon.

It's all about the Benjamins... $$ IS the root of all evil.

I probably enjoy bacon more than you enjoy breathing and drinking water... which is
less harmful, if you're not overweight and sedentary???

I concur that we precipitated most dangers to our environment ourselves in the
    name of progress....

I concur that we precipitated most dangers to our environment ourselves in the

Some cultures ate(/still eat??) the MOST intelligent mammals (well, MOST of us are)
    on the planet.

I suggest you get yourself a farm and grow and raise anything you want to, the way
you want to, or pay double and more for what you can find that is produced to your
    satisfaction.

God really didn't think things out... He LOVES all of his creations, but subjected most
of them to horrific, painful deaths to sustain the others. If he really loved us, we would be a planet of herbivores, AND he would strike down murderers, rapists and the like,
BEFORE they destroyed others' lives. Please don't cite Adam & Eve story, he made
them incestuous to populate the world, then killed EVERYBODY except Noah and his
family (more incest followed.) His Catholic priests have to be the largest group of pedophiles out there, possible exception NAMBLA (or ARE they members, too???)
