God Bless Chicago PD!

Great job by the Chicago PD. God bless them for protecting our city from those who wish to do harm. May the city and especially the media give them praise for their work during NATO. Chicago PD has a great leader in Garry McCarthy.

  • Agree! The people protesting at Cermak & Michigan late this afternoon were just punks there to provoke the police. The cops did a magnificent job as did Channel 5 reporters.

I was just about to post a similar message. I am so proud of our city and police force after this weekend's NATO events. Clearly the preparation and execution was well thought out and led to a VERY controlled response to these out-of-towners looking to cause trouble. I am all for free speech and peaceful protesting, but when people who don't live here come with sinister intentions it will certainly lead to conflict that had to be shut down. I also agree that Garry McCarthy has done a wonderful job. Being on the ground with his officers sends a strong message and his calm, matter-of-fact demeanor when speaking with the media is right on. You have to give Rahm credit for picking him as well. GOOD JOB RAHM, GARRY and ALL THE OFFICERS. THANK YOU!

Cell Phone Fail: AT&T Cannot Provide Service During Cubs Games

Anyone who lives in the neighborhood is likely as frustrated as I am with AT&T because of the terrible service they "provide" during Cubs games. While my iPhone4 displays full bars and 3G, during Cubs games, I may as well turn the phone off because it simply does not work. Making calls is a crap shoot, dropping calls is guaranteed and data speeds are more like 1996 dial up. I am so dependent on my cell phone for business purposes...

I am so dependent on my cell phone for business purposes and afternoon work-week games pretty much force me to my land line. Does anyone know if AT&T is doing anything to add more capacity and address this issue? Does anyone have an iPhone running on Verizon's network? If so, is it any better? My contract is up next month so I am going to be switching- I just want to know if anyone has had better luck with another provider.

  • I have an iPhone with Verizon service and my ability to do certain things while at a game at Wrigley is spotty - sometimes things (i.e. uploading a photo to Instagram or Facebook) work quickly and other times it fails to upload. There seems to be no consistency to the service (or lack thereof). Overall though, reception across the city with Verizon is better than with AT&T.

  • My boyfriend and I both have iphones with Verizon and live near Wrigley. Just Northeast. I have never had a problem and I live in a highrise. I have lots of friends that have iphones with AT&T and there are quite a few places where I get reception and they...

My boyfriend and I both have iphones with Verizon and live near Wrigley. Just Northeast. I have never had a problem and I live in a highrise. I have lots of friends that have iphones with AT&T and there are quite a few places where I get reception and they don't. On the flip side, my boyfriend works in the Sears Tower and doesn't get reception very well and his co-workers have AT&T iphone with no problems.

Overall, I wouldn't switch from Verizon. I've had then for years and have very few if any dropped calls. I've had windows, droid and iphone with them. Iphone is the best and they keep putting up more towers.

It is the little things

Gahhhhhh. I am so tired of the petty crap that happens to my property. I try very hard to keep the front of my house looking nice. Why do people have to rip plants out of the ground/planter or destroy retaining walls? Clearly break-ins or other more intrusive crimes are worse, but at least I can understand why someone would want a computer or cell phone. I don't get the thrill of ruining someone's landscaping. I don't know if it will help, but I guess I have to move forward with installing cameras.

  • MandaLeigh 10 Year Ravenswood Romance

Because many people are just complete numbskulls (a lovely phrase I've chosen to inherit from my grandpa) who, for whatever reason, just haven't any common decency or conscience nor manners when interacting with the rest of society.
I'm sorry your property has been damaged. I guess that's just another "perk" of city life. Bleh.

Unloading a book collection?

Anyone have positive experiences either selling/donating used books in Chicago? I'll be moving and would love to pass much of my book collection on to a new home.

Its the little things that matter...

Orange and white kitty - Waveland and Lake Shore Dr.?

All of a sudden I'm seeing a very beautiful cat prowling around in the "secret garden" behind the two Waveland 6 flats.
Heretofore this has been a "no predator" area where birds and other creatures could live in peace - now not so much.
Is this your cat? If so, if you insist on putting her/him out prowling (which can be dangerous as there may be toxins in the yards) please put a pop collar with a bell around his or her neck to give the birds, rabbits and squirrels a break.
Thanks very much.

  • It could be a lost cat or a stray that has moved into the area. You might want to check lost pets on craigslist.

New Bike Racks - where did they come from?

Just curious about the new bike racks you see through Lakeview. They are cool colors and in the shape of a bike. I like them and just wondering if they were purchased by the city or some how locally. Any comments would be helpful?

More street closings slated

For Saturday's night Crosstown Classic game between the Cubs and White Sox at Wrigley Field, traffic will be cleared out on portions of Addison and Clark streets, and Waveland and Sheffield avenues, according to the Chicago Traffic Management Authority.
