I would agree that Hyde Park is still a safe area, and a great place to be in the city. I feel like it's getting better every day. It is still an urban neighborhood and things happen. I think right now we are seeing an uptick in crimes due to the weather changing and getting warmer. That seems to happen every year. Overall, Hyde Park is still a very safe area, and in my experience, a great neighborhood for families, especially now that more businesses and restaurants are moving into the area.

Endangered Schulze Bakery May Soon Be Reborn as a Data Center

On Wednesday, Landmarks Illinois put the former bakery at 40 E. Garfield Blvd. on its list of Most Endangered Historic Places for the year. On Thursday, the developer said financing is now in place to revive Schulze Bakery.

  • If it comes to pass it would be great news for the community. It would bring some jobs to the neighborhood and would remove a potential eyesore from 55th Street.
