I think a lot of people have come here fleeing either higher prices or deteriorating conditions in other places and that there is a great moment of economic and racial diversity that is really rare and precious in segregated Chicago, but that is fragile and not going to remain unless we are intentional about supporting it. I think that means intentionally blending the type of housing and prices. It also means that folks who want to do business here should hire from the neighborhood as much as possible. I also think a lot of people have worked really hard to make HP livable and I want to recognize and appreciate that.

Also, racism does not just go away by not talking about it. Being an antiracist ally means having a really honest self assessment of your biases and privelidges and deciding to really take steps to counter them. It involves not just being responsible for what you do, but also being responsible for what has happened in the past that gave you privelidge and for strategically engaging the community you came out of.
