"We are dedicated to collaborating with ONE Northside and current tenant associations to create a desirable, effective and safe relocation plan for current residents. We know firsthand that homes house precious memories, which is why the current tenants of 1124 W. Wilson will have first priority to live in the remodeled building."

While I applaud that they're trying to find new homes for the residents and giving them first crack at a unit there, let's be realistic and know there's no way they'll be able to afford whatever "reasonable" rent will be. What are we guessing, $1100? Come on.

  • At least 20% will be affordable housing, so probably less than $1100. There's also this from the other article:

"We are told that the new owners have hired an on-site case manager to help current residents find new housing and to connect them with support in the form of social services and/or family. Under the SRO Ordinance, they will also receive $2000 each to assist them with moving expenses."

  • Sherian Lazy right now!

A really great idea now if only the scum of the earth would leave the pianos alone so that decent people could use them all would be well. Last summer the drunks/thugs/scum destroyed one piano in a park and we lost a good piano. So far this summer it is working out and I have heard so wonderful music by very talented people.

  • MarcP MP

    Calling all pianists.
Please do not forget to bring your own hand sanitizer and something to clean the keys off these pianos.
As stated by Sherian, these delightful objects for playing music in the park are less than inviting to those who really appreciate this installation.
Germs can really kill the mood.
Play on but play away with a generous amount of purel.

Mother gets probation in death of newborn thrown from 8th floor
A Chicago woman accused of throwing her infant daughter to her death from an eighth-floor window was sentenced to probation. Mubashra Uddin, 20, pleaded guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter. A Cook County judge sentenced her to four years of probation. Uddin originally was charged with first-degree murder in the November 2015 death.

Hey, I thought in our justice system the judge doesn't have to agree with prosecutors , if that was the case we would all be in big trouble. The judge can also override the plea agreement , otherwise we could kill someone and plead guilty of spitting on the sidewalk.
This is injustice and an embarrassment. The baby doesn't get justice.

  • Joan M. Back in Lincoln Square and liking it.

"Now, I haven't read the court transcript, a statement from the judge, or anything like that."

You can say that again! And I'd reckon that goes for everyone shouting in this thread. The comments here testify as to why most lawyers in situations like this advise against jury trials.
