Beware - Persons Going Through Your Garbage Cans Might Be Looking To Rob You

We had our garage broken into recently and the thief left his shopping cart behind in the alley. The Police told us that nothing in the cart was valuable; the thief was just pushing it around to make him look "legitimate" while he scoped out robbery possibilities. The Police did a great job - they found and arrested the thief. Bottom line is keep an eye on alley denizens and keep them moving on their way.

You should lock your garage, it's easy, go get a lock. Duh!

  • I guess you didn't read my post. It has nothing to do with people actually taking things out of my garbage cans. I don't care if they do, so why would I need a lock?

Nannys On Phones

Yesterday my wife was with my 4 yo daughter at Oz Park enjoying the nice weather when another boy who looked about 4 hit his head very hard on the wooden apparatus. He began crying so much that he began gagging and throwing up. Through all of this no one came to his aid. It was only after my wife and a few other adults at the park called out for help for the boy that his nanny (of eastern bloc heritage) who had been ignoring the boy while talking on her cell phone came running.

My wife was very upset about the incident mostly because she sees nannys all of the time talking or texting and basically ignoring their young charges. Children need interaction - someone talking with them and playing with them. And someone watching out for their safety.

So if your little boy came home from Oz Park yesterday with a big bump on his head, then this is how it happened. And if you have a nanny or sitter, then please consider making no phone calls or texting while the child is awake a non-negotiable requirement to stay employed.

I disagree with Art, I wanna see more nannys on the phone. Thanks.

Any parent who does not prohibit cell phone use as condition of employment should stand on any corner in LP and watch some unfortunate parent's little darling being carted across the intersection while nanny is pushing a cell phone into her ear canal.
Unfortunately this is also true of parents (usually the mom) deep in conversation about the latest chapter of "Fifty Shades of Grey". sorry PC lovers, it's a fact.

-A Chicago original since 1968-

Hey CDOT, did you a favor today

Saw your job-box was wide open at 8pm- long after the crew left for the day.
Maybe they had an emergency and had to split, maybe Tony though Sal locked it up...I don't know!

But after seeing the shovels, rakes, trowels and other costly tools in there the best thing for me to do was to lock them up for you.
Your shiny, bullet-proof Master lock was just sitting there on the ground so I put it on the lockbar and voila! Stolen tools and wasted tax dollars averted!

Lets be more mindful tomorrow ok??

  • St. James Lutheran School reviewed

Horrible school. The year after we left, the class my son was in went from over 20 kids to 6. So draw your own conclusions on why there was such a mass exodus. I've since heard the previous principal was demoted and maybe there is some hope for the school but with the continual leadership by a megalomaniac disguised as a pastor, I highly doubt it.

Citywide staff pick

From New Bike Racks - where did they come from?:

"Just curious about the new bike racks you see through Lakeview. They are cool colors and in the shape of a bike. I like them and just wondering if they were purchased by the city or some how locally. Any comments would be helpful?"
