Chgo Reed Mental hosp

just heard that the MENTAL prison in St Louis who house convicts for murder due to their mental issues will be closing in about 1yr and they will be coming to Chgo Reed mental Hosp. We were told to call our alderman to see what changes they plan on doing as far as security.

I was told that, sometimes, when they arrest apparently mentally violent people, they bring them to Read Center and hold them there long enough to transfer them to a facility that can control them. ie, NOT permament! Just to hold and transfer!

  • Thanks Latina, I'll check with Sheriff Dart's Office as well.

CAR WASH

Does anyone use the NORWOOD CAR WASH on N.W. Hwy.? I'm looking around for a car wash and this place seems to be popular. They have good reviews on YELP. Does anyone use any of the other places on N.W. Hwy.? Thanks for the feedback.

36 ward

Belmont Ave

Does any one when they will reopen Belmont ave ?

Loading loading

  • Tony B. 36 ward resident

Good News... I just walked past Belmont & Sayre with my dog (Sat - 4pm). Belmont is open, Detour signs are gone and Buses are moving through in both directions.
Bad News... The intersection looks awful. They patched it with cement and it looks horrible. Take your time driving through the intersection. They need to come back and repave the intersection.

  • Have been told in another context that the normal way the paving's now done is for the contractor to pour rough concrete so traffic can get moving. Later a different crew comes in to do the real paving, which requires a lot more engineering than the initial quick pour. Of course, I'd like to feel 100% confident this balances fast reopening with the most cost effective way to get to the finished project.

Club 78 - New Restaurant/Bar on North Ave.?

Does anybody have any information on this new business that recently opened on North Ave. in Galewood? Is this a bar?

  • Bryan Galewood.net

Maybe they were able to buy the license along with the old business or the property? or maybe they needed a new license, but since the property was already zoned as a restaurant/bar, it wasn't an issue?

It's a classy place, more restaurant than bar, nicely decorated and clean, with a super-friendly staff, it's certainly less sketchy than the Kat Klub a couple blocks away. If they have stepping parties, it's gonna be an older, responsible crowd. I'm thrilled to have a decent bar open, If I wanted to live in a dry neighborhood without black folks, I'd move to Oak Park, ha.

  • Can't wait to try it. LOVE the fact that there will be a bar that we can walk to in the neighborhood. I've missed Cafe LaGuardia dearly.

Thanks for doing this, Bryan. I hope a lot of folks get out on April 18th to vote -- even if you don't have children attending CPS, these are still your neighborhood schools! Note: If you live in the Sayre school district (North-Grand-Harlem-Nashville) -- I would really appreciate your vote so I can continue working on the LSC to improve our school.
    Thanks, Shelley Huske :)

  • Bryan Galewood.net

    It's posted now, at http://galewood.net/2012/lsc-candidates/

Please let us know about inaccuracies or omissions. And again, we're happy to add any candidate's statement or campaign flyer.

We now can look forward to seeing what new ideas, and the direction the winner of this election takes for the betterment of the ward. It is a challenging job and takes skill to juggle dual responsibilities that of both alderman and committeeman. With all eyes on the winner,
great ideas and dedication is expected by all who voted their
choice. Let's see what summer brings for now....

Street Sweeping Starts This Week

"Street sweeping began today across Chicago, and the city's Department of Streets and Sanitation is warning citizens to be aware of parking restrictions, temporary and permanent, that will be in effect.

The street sweeping season lasts until Oct. 31, according to a release from the department, keeping dirt and debris out of the city's sewer system and allowing for better drainage during rainy weather."

Schorsch Forest View History/Old Pictures?

I live in the Schorsch Forest View subdivision. From what I know already, half of the neighborhood (the Schorsch part) Was built from 1956-1958. The other half was put up in the mid 60's- late 70's. I was wondering if anyone out there has any other history for me. Old pictures of the neighborhood would be great too. I'm a bit of a history fan so anything regarding my neighborhood's past would be great. Feel free to email me through EveryBlock if you have any information.

Is the Schorsch Forest View subdivision located at Cumberland and Lawernce?? There are at least 4 other developements by "Schorsch".

  • Yes, it is between Cumberland, Lawrence, and East River Road.

  • Albert F. Opitz moved to the 36th ward 10yrs ago w/o leaving my hs

I don't have any photos, however in the 50', there was a Stable across the street on Lawrence (south side) and a Quanset village for returning GI's onthe other corner (You still can see the fire hydrants, inactive). Don't remember much other than that. The Air Force, College and marrage took the rest of my time until '74. Remember some of the buildint though!

Life long city resident

Cemetary on Addison and Narragansett

This little guy was out walking around the fence line at 3:20 this afternoon. I tried to walk up to the fence to get a better picture but he ran off. Keep an eye on small pets.

Last night, I saw three smaller coyotes about 40 feet from the gate inside the cemetary near the stop sign on Addison. Glowing eyes and totally unafraid, Beautiful.

  • Albert F. Opitz moved to the 36th ward 10yrs ago w/o leaving my hs

There were several seen at the Dunning site. Very resourceful at hiding. They're all over the city, note news article when one went to a sandwich shop and sat in the cooler. (I guess he was hungry). Now the City discovered that they are good at rodent control (Rabbits, geese, etc.) and just monitor their activities!

Citywide staff pick

From New Bike Racks - where did they come from?:

"Just curious about the new bike racks you see through Lakeview. They are cool colors and in the shape of a bike. I like them and just wondering if they were purchased by the city or some how locally. Any comments would be helpful?"
