Looking to buy 2- 3-flat in RP

Hi neighbors,

I have sold my condo, and I'm looking to buy a two or three flat in the Rogers Park area--preferably east, but flexible.

Inventory seems pretty low right now, but if any of you have a heads up on a place coming on the market I would love to hear about it!

Hi neighbors,

I have sold my condo, and I'm looking to buy a two or three flat in the Rogers Park area--preferably east, but flexible.

Inventory seems pretty low right now, but if any of you have a heads up on a place coming on the market I would love to hear about it!

In the meantime, since I may have to move out of here before I actually find a building to buy, I am also looking for a dog friendly, reasonably priced studio or one bedroom to rent or sublet. Would appreciate any leads you have in that area as well.

I am a solidly employed, very responsible, reasonably quiet renter with good credit – if that helps. :-)

Thank you!

J.

Will you go as far west as Damen (abt 1 1/2 blks east of Ridge)? If so, there's a beautiful house with a big yard that's split into an upstairs and downstairs apartment. I haven't been inside, but the outside looks great and I've seen pictures of the interior on...

Will you go as far west as Damen (abt 1 1/2 blks east of Ridge)? If so, there's a beautiful house with a big yard that's split into an upstairs and downstairs apartment. I haven't been inside, but the outside looks great and I've seen pictures of the interior on Zillow and that looks really good too. I don't have a phone number, but I looked it up by its address and found its listing. 1946 W. Estes

The block is very nice and there's often good street parking (mostly in day).

Thanks for all your help, RP fam! Got my eye on a place and going through the inspection phase now! Very exciting, especially since the place is only a couple blocks away from where I am now! I can still frequent all my favorite RP haunts.

Again, I appreciate all the useful comments. More soon!

Looking for a Sublet for June, July, August

Last night I found out after having to wait for days that my sublet fell through. Now, I am desperately seeking a sublet. If there is anything out there for the 3 months furnished, unfurnished. Studio, 1 br. I am grateful. I have a little dog and I can afford at max. $ 900.00, while I am finishing my last full time semester in Graduate school and transitioning from part time to full time work. I have good credit.

  • No more than 900.00. I think the deposit for having a dog is 200.00. I should know within a day or two if it will be available. It's a great place. Very clean and spacious feeling. The guy just isn't sure of his plans just yet. Don't want to get your hopes up.

A Bill of Rights for Seniors

I just came from a wonderful meeting with organizers of the Jane Addams Senior Caucus, and they are starting up a long range plan to create a Bill of Rights for Seniors. This is the result of countless stories of the difficulties seniors have had with managers who ignore them, put off repairs for months because they are understaffed in a big building, or seem to presume that all senior people have lost their intelligence and do not deserve attention. There is a very very careful and respectful plan to develop this Bill of Rights, and step one, for the next three months, is to uncover situations of serious disrespect and issues of threatening seniors with eviction if they complain.

  • Gabriel Resident of PRRP

It would seem that rather than complain about what seniors might be getting it might be wise to extend whatever protections they are able to gain to other vulnerable populations. Perhaps a tenants bill of rights and/or whatever modifications need to exist to offer real protections from unscrupulous landlords. Why does it always have to be framed as a zero sum game?

Omar, vulnerable people, which includes many seniors who live in CHA buildings, deserve special help in the form of competent advocacy to address problems with things like adequate heating, plumbing that works, functioning elevators, insect infestations, etc. If Kelly Viselman, the Senior Housing Justice Organizer at Jane Addams Senior Caucus down in Old Town, were truly dedicated to achieving housing justice for seniors she would be doing these things. Instead, the Jane Addams Caucus is busy fiddling around with a bill of rights and not working to enforce existing rights that seniors already have. The Caucus is busy protesting a non-existent Target store which they allege will devastate local businesses. Instead they should be advocating the enforcement of existing seniors' rights. The Caucus is alleging that a Target store will "take space from seniors" when in fact the proposed development will create more than 60 new units of affordable senior housing. The Caucus is wasting time addressing non-existent, fictitious problems instead of actively advocating the enforcement of existing seniors' rights. The Caucus is pursuing their own agenda of making work and protecting their jobs. The Caucus is not addressing our seniors' needs or advocating for the enforcement of their existing rights.
