Gunshots in Rogers Park.

Anyone else hear gunshots around 1:35am this morning near Jonquil or Juneway? There were 4-5 shots in a row.

  • I heard that too, around 2:05am. I lived on Sheridan but my room is facing east lake terr and Rogers. I thought the shots came from East lake Terr. Anyone knows where that happened?

  • Yeah, same alley as above. Maybe this is weird, but it almost sounded like someone was bored and decided to unload a clip, because there were two slow shots, a pause, and then six more shots in succession. I didn't hear any voices or anything afterward.

First come basis after notifying me. I live in Rogers Park on Sheridan Road. If you can take downstairs an over-the-bed medical table and/or a 4-drawer letter sized file cabinet (with key) from my 2nd floor residence, they're yours!

Both items are in pristine condition. I purchased the medical table some years ago from a used furniture place and used it for craft making purposes. The file cabinet is taupe in color, purchased from Office Depot for household rather than industrial use.

*** To my surprise, I was informed by the Salvation Army pickup service: 1) NO medical items, 2) NO office furniture, including (but not limited to) chairs and desks, 3) NO medical furniture, including (but not limited to) chairs and stools, 4) NO bookcases that should be affixed to a wall 5) NO books other than novels, 6) NOT PERMITTED to pickup items in an unfinished basement area, e.g., boiler, overhead exposed pipes.

Thanks in advance.

  • Ary, click on Kateri's name in their post, and then choose "send email" from the bottom of the list on the right side.

  • Kateri in Rogers Park artist at heart

I am awaiting a reply from Ary to set up a mutually agreed upon time for viewing and/or pickup. I included my phone number in my email to him.

Anyone else interested? Please feel free to email me.

For some reason, I can't find who it was that suggested I contact the BROWN ELEPHANT. I will contact the Brown Elephant if this ad remains in limbo. The filing cabinet and bed table really are in pristine condition.

What's up with heavy traffic near lakefront in RoPa and north Edgewater

Police blocking roads feeding into Sheridan Rd. Any thoughts or info?

  • Laurie A. DeMeyer Voted best Bodyworker in Chicago&Im in RP;)

They are filming Netflix show called "The Patriot",Chicago Justice and others around Chicagoland. It's awesome that film is coming back to ChiTown. Mayor Daley had put a HUGE tax on us/them back in mid to late 90's and a lot of the stages and crews left here BUT that was finally lifted and incentives were brought back to the table about 10+ years ago now soooooo we finally have more jobs in the film land!! Such a great city to shoot locations!!

  • Good to hear, Laurie! It's great to see so many productions happening around the city.

d3, I have never noticed Live's alleged "uninformed opinion of NOH." It has been fairly clear that s/he ridicules certain people, including you, who leave themselves open to it. Live seems to know a good deal more about RP than do you.

  • As someone who has lived north of Howard and enjoyed it very much and now lives closer to the new development on Morse I can speak with credibility. The little dipsy comment about an uninformed opinion is silly twit-talk.

Enjoy Chili, Connect With Neighbors & Support Rogers Park's Food Insecure Residents

The 8th Annual HEAT it UP Pro-Am Chili Cook-off and Fundraiser. Sunday March 5, 12pm to 3pm at Bar 63, 6341 N Broadway Ave. HEAT IT UP profits go to the Glenwood Sunday Market’s food access programs which serve the 20% of Rogers Park residents who are food insecure. Profits from the cook-off will help feed people in Rogers Park. Details at https://www.facebook.com/events/378974755781519/

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

What great news: Heat It Up, sponsored by the Rogers Park Business Alliance, raised $11,200 to assist food insecure families.

  • Well that's not much of a tax foot imprint per pound of chili and because of overhead the humanity creation ratio for food insecurity would be better spent tipping the balance toward buildings slotted for neoliberal educational opportunities.

https://us-mg6.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?.partner=sbc&.rand=184gb9i3p9459

Do you know about the World Health Organization's attempt to ensure a safe, healthy, active aging process for adults aged 60 and over? Do you know that Chicago is a part of this movement?

In the summer of 2012 Mayor Emanuel registered Chicago in WHO's Age-Friendly Cities organization, and the City conducted a survey of older adults to assess their needs and desires. The vision for Chicago includes a senior village in every ward. However, the organization in formation on the north side currently includes residents of four wards (40, 48, 49, and 50). Though now known as Edgewater Village, it has been suggested the name be changed to be more inclusive; discussions are ongoing.

The Village is being set up and run by older adults (senior citizens, if you will, I personally dislike the term) who meet monthly to plan an organization that meets their needs and includes their interests.

Edgewater Village is concentrating on encouraging north side residents to engage with one another socially, and its Programming Committee is actively seeking members and ideas to accomplish this goal. Other committees in formation include Communications, Employment, Finance, Housing, Social Services, and Volunteers.

Edgewater Village is not an advocacy organization and has no political aims or affiliations.

The next general meeting will be held on February 22 at 1:00 p.m. The group meets at the Broadway Armory, 5917 North Broadway (at Thorndale). Meetings last about two hours.

Shakespeare on Howard Street

Strawdog Theatre Company is performing Shakespeare's "Cymbeline" at Factory Theater, 1623 W. Howard, through February 25. Tickets are $30; $24 for seniors.

    Strawdog Theatre Company
Shakespeare. You've heard of him. This play has all the vicious insults, bloody blades, cross-dressed ladies and compromised bedchambers you've come to expect from the man. But then things get nuts. It's a no-holds-barred epic, a dark fairy tale set off by a king's rash verdict and a princess who won't stand for her man's wrongful banishment.
    http://www.strawdog.org
  • Be careful during the second act which is filled with violence, murder and brutal mayhem. But to answer your question robinM, that is very likely. The former MAGA (Make America Great Again) probably mis-typed MAGO in a new sock puppet account and is stuck with it now.

  • Oh, I was thinking they left out an "o" and it's supposed to be "Magoo Garcia". My bad.

Yes, I found CBS up on 48.3. but I have an antenna in my attic and have had no problem getting WBBM on channel 12. I think some people need to re-scan their TV to be sure they are getting all the digital channels, which sometimes move around.

As for WOCK , that is on real channel 4 in the low VHF and is low power (class a). I get it on my antenna but it breaks up quite a bit.

Speaking of moving around. most of the UHF channels will be shifted around when the FCC repack happens. Everything above real channel 37 and below 21 will have to be moved. Make way for more land mobile service.

That should make your job fun Tom ;-)

  • Carol K. in Chicago, IL Medical Coder

Please let us know when the "FCC repack" is supposed to happen. I had no warning when they moved CW from channel 9 to channel 50. I recorded the wrong channel twice before I googled it and found out what had happened.

Unconscionable treatment of seniors

DNA info reports conditions that may be life-threatening inside the Hedger senior apartments at Broadway/Sheridan and Devon. This is on top of the sidewalks that have been hazardous for months to old people with walkers and canes. This is shocking. Too bad there are not nearly as many lobbyists for seniors in public housing as for families with children.

The Chicago Housing Authority[CHA] is flush with Federal money and can not maintain a Senior Building ? Surprising right ?
Wide use of Electric heaters are a very big danger in these type of Apartments Complexes. The heat situation 66 degrees at night in Chicago is a very cold apartment for a Senior, Most seniors have health issues.

Well i must say that Former CHA CEO Michel Merchant and the new CEO Eugene Jones are a big Disappointment 4 Chicago Residence .
It started with them 2 CEO bringing in a bunch of worthless people on CHA pay roll , Then CHA Mysteriously started replacing Contractors with sub standard companies to Serve CHA residents. The CHA procurement Since 2015 and right now is a joke and more a family Affair .

I not going say to much more at this time about the current CHA situation but will continue reviewing CHA actions and policy. Chicago housing Authority Board and Chairmen John Hooker and Mayor Rahm are put on notice that Things at CHA are not Right and Citizens are watching closely and documenting events and conduct .

Enjoy it while you can. There ain't no chili without chiles and they are pure Mexican where they've been enjoyed for at least the last 6,000 years. Even before Trump builds his Great Wall (with our money from the sound of it) he is going to send back all undocumented life forms. So long chile peppers; been nice to know ya. Ancient Mexicans added beans to their chiles and meat. But Native North American Indians, cattle drivers and trail hands didn't. Poor people eventually added beans to stretch out the meat. Cinnamon buns? Chili and cinnamon buns was standard school lunch food in some areas of the US. In Ohio they like the addition of cinnamon to the chili, but not the buns, for Cincinnati Chili. However you enjoy it, do it now quick before our Twitler-in-Chief deports all the pepper plants back to Mexico.

I was doing a sweep of the area to pick up litter in the Wayne, Farwell, Lakewood area (6900 -7000). The accumulation of trash and litter in front of the apartment building at 6832 (Wayne and Farwell) was disgraceful. I attempted to call the Hirsch Management Company at the number listed on the posted sign and reached a heating and air conditioning company. After doing an internet search, I found a management company in Evanston by that name with a different phone number. There was no answer and no voice mail. I will try again on Monday. If there continues to be no answer, I will drive up there Tuesday and talk to the management to have them address this issue.

  • Trash accumulating in the front of the building? The landlord should have someone out there cleaning it up daily, then.

  • This thread is from almost 5 years ago. Lisa the contact info for the building should be posted on the building
.if not I would call 311 or the Ward office..
