Happy Summer

Summer is is great time for hanging out by the lake in a hammock with a beer and a sketchbook.

And at least some beaches have wifi now so you can check to see what your friends are eating on facebook.

We are living in a Golden Age....embrace it.

Denzel Burke & Michael Phillips Sentencing

I haven't heard anything about the prosecution of these two criminals in some time. I genuinely believe that a fair disposition of their case would be to serve a mandatory 20 years in the USMC or a mandatory term of 20 years in prison. If they would choose for the military, they would be on felony probation for that entire 20 year term, and should they withdraw from the service or be less than honorably discharged the balance of that time would be subject to be seven in incarceration. There is absolutely no excuse for their actions

@robinM - I think "Liar" did not effectively argue his point, got caught jumping to a conclusion based on misrepresenting my comments and now is forced to resort to a personal attack, which has been reported.

@Mad About RP - So your comments were just generalizations! Okay, got it!

There is a saying...can't remember who said it, I quoted recently. .."art is a lie that reveals the truth".

What those guys did was a deception, but it revealed more truth about the way the public interacts with conceptual art than anything else out there.

I would call it a successful work of conceptual art, the concept being the gullibility of the public, the expectations of that public in a public setting like a museum. Deception was the concept and it worked.

Awesome point Pedro, thanks for sharing that.

Plant Sale

The Rogers Park Garden Group's annual plant sale is today, June 11, 9 AM - 2 PM, on Glenwood, south of Morse.

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Manda, according to a garden group page I found, this is the final year of the garden group so I assume there won't be a plant sale next year.

Avy interviewed everybody in Chicago public life, from the movers and shakers in high elected offices...to the judicial benches...to the local artist from Uptown. Avy believed in Chicago, believed we could be a better city if we just talked it out, if we told our stories we could do better as a city. Avy was in every sense of the word a true journalist, it wasn't a job it was his calling we are better for him following his heart into journalism.
The passing of Avy on this holiday, a day of such beautiful weather and a steady breeze. I am trying to remember the humor...the jokes...I will keep trying but right now I only feel shock and sleepless sadness for the passing of a friend.
My condolences to all who loved him, to Sonny Hersh, to the entire community, our friend Avy made a difference.

Always be in peace....Baruch Dayan Haemet

  • Sad news, Jeffrey. He will be missed.

  • Dan Miller RP/WR resident since 1978

A friendly, helpful neighbor, and just a plain good guy.

  • Jim Osburn longtime Evanston resident, longtime CPA

Can't believe that he's passed. Avy was such a fixture in the neighborhood. Sometimes a force of nature, sometimes a gentle breeze, always a good guy and a Chicago icon.

Pratt pier

Late afternoon and into the evening, there were several police cars and a police truck, as well as some unmarked police cars parked off Pratt in the park as well as on the pier. No ambulance or rescue vehicles. Does anyone know what was going on? They were there for hours.

Constant bell ringing

I don't know if other people have this problem or can hear it. But someone on my street Greenview, repeatedly "calls" numbers all night. I hear the dialing all night with little with no time in between. Not sure who or where or even why, this is going on. Just an FYI if you have a unit that faces the street and you're window is open, everyone else on that street with their window open can hear you! Well i might add! So i hear you're screaming matches , scream singing, dialing doo..buzzers

Alderman Moore Supports Proposed Project Despite Overwhelming Community Opposition Against...AGAIN!!

Alderman Moore has, at his own capricious volition, elected to support approval of the proposed Target at Sheridan/Devon Despite Overwhelming Opposition from both the locally effected business and residential communities.

My decision on proposed mixed-use development, including Target store, at Sheridan and Devon
I am writing to inform you of my decision on a proposed seven-story mixed-income and mixed-use development on the 6400 block of N. Sheridan that would include both market rate and affordable rental housing and a small "flexible format" Target store.

  • They are opening a "food hall" on Sheridan.

  • goodness, I thought one only encountered those types on Everyblock these days. They're on the streets, too? Horrors.

well, this is great. water shut off w no notice

i live on touhy, where they are laying new water lines.
there was a notice put on my door that they would be shutting off service.
the notice was put up between 9 and 11 this morning warning that they would shut it off today from 10am to ???

by the time i saw the notice, it was already shut off.
not cool.
@joe moore

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Mo, whenever the city has shut off water to our block, someone has rung the doorbell in advance of the shutoff. Might you have missed hearing it?

  • possible, tho not likely. tho if you just stab the button, and dont really press it, it doesnt ring. but the dogs didnt say anything, either.

i know they will be doing this anywhere they are putting in the new lines, i hope people are aware of the work and are now forewarned.

Rogers Park in The Guardian

The Guardian recently featured a story about Rogers Park, by a Northestern U. professor who lives in the neighborhood.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/apr/11/confessions-gentrification-race-rogers-park-chicago

    Confessions of a reluctant gentrifier
Shortly after we married, my husband and I moved to a part of Chicago that was once known as No Man's Land. At the turn of the century, this was the sparsely populated place between the cities of Chicago and Evanston, a place where the streets were unpaved and unlit.
    https://www.theguardian.com
  • Argumentum ad nauseum.

  • 9+ years old or not...I appreciated this article. Thanks for sharing. I do find it amusing that the author did eventually move to Evanston though. HA!

Spanish Conversation

Sorry for the confusion as to day and time for us to have our first Spanish conversation group get off the ground. I've been trying to accommodate everyone on 2 different sites.
Let's meet this Friday at the Royal at 7pm. If we decide to make changes, por lo menos podemos discutir el sujeto en espanol!

Gracias por el interes, y nos vemos el viernes!

Hasta luego,
